Who: Greg Everett and Dita Reese What: Phone Call - Checking up on the sick New Yorkers When: Sunday Night
-ring ring-
"Hey there."
"So, you're up there?"
"Hi Dita. Yeah. Yeah, I made the trip. Seemed like the thing to do. You holdin' things together down there?"
"I'm trying to. Seen Asher and Margo?"
"I have. Margo is coming around, seems to be doin' a lot better. Asher... not so much. He didn't get sick until a bit after her though, so, you know, there's still a good chance he'll come around soon too. I hope."
"I'm sure he will. They said there's a cure. He'll get it, and he'll get better."
"Right. You're right, of course he will." -sounds pretty shaken by this whole thing-
"Hey. He'll be okay. Kaylee isn't losing Simon that easily."
"No, she's not. We're not any of us losing anyone without a fight. It's just odd, you don't really think about things really coming to an end very often. Least ways, I haven't. Not since... well, anyway. Here we've had a couple of close calls."
"Not since? And, yeah, I guess I'm one of those who think of it all the time. Might be Zoe."
"Not since Kaylee came aboard. I used to be one of those who thought on it a lot. She's not so much the type."
"No, she's not that type, not unless things get really drastic. But, things will work out. Kaylee will see Simon soon enough, I'm sure."
"Yeah. That's good. She wants to see him. Me... I don't know. That's sure to be fantastically awkward. Things ain't exactly the same as they used to be, are they?"
"Well, Kaylee's still sweet and caring. You care enough to head up there. And you're sweet. You might be a man, but...yeah, it's going to be a little awkward."
"Well, I have to know, right? And we've gotta make sure someone is takin' care of him. Dunno that I'm sweet though. And it's that being a man part that really gets in the way. I'm as open-minded as the next guy, but my bread just ain't buttered that way. I'm pretty sure Kaylee knows it too."
"Maybe it'll be different when you two finally meet face to face." -could he hear the forced smile?-
"I wouldn't be countin' on that. And we have met face to face, if it still counts with him bein' all fevered and delirious."
"Oh. I don't know how I'd feel if there was a Wash all of a sudden. I..I don't know."
"Yeah." -sounds concerned/awkward- "That would be odd, I bet. I'm sure Zoe misses him though. Depends who he was stuck in and... well, and whether you were interested in someone else. That would make things even stranger..." -rambles-
"Zoe's fine with how things are now. She's let him go. It doesn't mean we would be unhappy if he showed, but yeah, it would make things a little strange if I..I was interested in someone. But, what are the chances right? I mean said someone would have to be interested in me to really make it all matter."
"That does make a difference. Now we all gotta coordinate four personalities. It's like dating by committee. Worth it in the end though. Life's just too short, right?"
"I'm sorry. Four personalities? Who's dating?"
"You and Zoe and, you know, whoever it is and whoever is in their head. That is, if it was another reincarnate. If you don't have everyone on board, it can't end well, can it?"
"You said 'we,' Greg. Were you planning on being involved?"
"'We' as in all us reincarnates. Our relationships ain't exactly simple, right. Not that I'm sayin' I don't want to be involved... I can definitely see the appeal."
"Oh. I thought..right. Right. What? Appeal?"
"Nothin'." -wusses out- "I should go, looks like they're finally lettin' Margo have more than a couple of visitors. I'll tell her you said hi? And I'll see you soon. At your place next time, I think I'm gettin' the hang of this MTN thing."
"Sure." -definitely disappointed- "Okay, tell her we're thinking about her. Her and Asher if you get to see him again. Sure, see you soon then."
