Terry watched the owl fly away with his short note. A moment later, a knock on his front door turned his attention away from the window. A glance at the clock on the wall told him that it was only just after two, and he wasn't expecting any visitors. Curious, he went to the door, looked out the peep hole and saw two wizards standing there, both wearing Ministry employee robes.
His curiosity even more piqued, he opened the door. "Hello, what can I do for you?" he asked politely. He didn't think he would be in any trouble with the Ministry, but one never really knew.
"Mr. Terry Boot?" the wizard on the right said. He was taller, mixed race, with a shiny, bald head. Terry nodded. "May we come in?"
Terry stepped back and motioned for them to enter, closing the door after they were inside. They looked around his small flat with it's spartan furnishings, and Terry couldn't quite keep the embarrassment at bay. He pushed it away and sat in a chair facing them.
"What can I do for you?" he asked.
The first wizard, who introduced himself as Mr. Mason, told him, "The Ministry would like to express their appreciation for your support. We have studied the interviews you have given at demonstrations, and are quite impressed. Mr. Wilkinson, head of the Public Relations Department, has asked us to extend an invitation for you to interview for a position that has opened in our department."
Terry's mind was reeling. They were as good as offering him a job! A real job, with a real, steady paycheck. "Of course, I'd love to. When would you like me to come in?" he asked.
