He was making such an effort to stay cool, calm, and collected, but she could see that it wasn't entirely easy for him. Had she known just how strongly opposed to it he was, she might have reconsidered, but she'd been honest when she'd told him that it was for her to get some closure.
"I'm sorry," she whispered, her eyes sad. "I know you're not comfortable with this, but all things considered, it would probably be best if you didn't come along. I promise I'll try to make it as quick as possible."
She closed her eyes and leaned her head against his shoulder. He might be irritated with her at the moment, but she needed to comfort. "I'm just ready to put all of that... him, behind me."
