Millie had had a few affairs, discreet enough not to sully her reputation (not that Marcus Flint back in school hadn't tried his best to do that. But she'd only been thirteen and no one could prove anything, right?). But no one wanted her for keeps, it seemed, and that still hurt.
Millicent mistook the surprise as a knowing look, but she didn't say anything. Why wouldn't Pansy think she had no one. She smiled and tucked a lock of hair out of her face.
Theo juggled Peter in his arms, keeping him distracted while listening in on the women talking. He was also surprised that Millie didn't have anyone; as great as she looked now, he would have thought men would be tripping over themselves for her.
"Only a few," Millie replied. "I'd ask Blaise, but I've known for weeks that he was going to be in Italy for a week or so. He's been very helpful the last year or so in helping me expand my network of contacts." He was one of her closest friends these days.
"But I did owl Terence Higgs the other day--you remember him? He was going to help me find a property to set up shop at. He might be amenable." He was personable and intelligent and would fit in, probably more than herself.
"Yes, Terence," Theo said with a nod. Quidditch mate, him. "Though I heard he had a girlfriend, some Hufflepuff from his year." There was no disgust at saying Hufflepuff.
"Really?" Millie said. Figures, she thought. "Well, it's up to him. He's a professional acquaintance more than a personal, though of course I know him from school. His girlfriend needn't fear anything from me."
