There were times, many times, when Millie felt like Pansy simply humored her presence. There was no definite why, just a subtle feeling of inferiority that spiked in her presence. Well, not just hers. Almost everyone's, but still. She felt like the dumpy, ugly troll next to Pansy's prettiness.
The child clambered until he was comfortable in Theo's arms, making him juggle him for a moment before settling him. These days, Theo wondered how anyone managed to keep up with a toddler; Peter was always going soemwhere and getting into something.
Theo smiled slightly. "We do, yes," he agreed. He had just a glimmer of what it might have cost Millie to say that, especially to his face.
"Oh really? I knew you'd been travelling, but not the specifics," he said. "Been anywhere interesting?"
Millie nodded. "Many places," she admitted. "Though I was in France just the other day and saw your mother." She just barely managed to avoid wrinkling her nose--Charis was not one of her fans, and never had been. The Bulstrodes were not on her list of good people, no matter what Agravaine thought. "She is herself, as always." Ambiguous, but not bad.
"And Ferrol, though apparently he was here in England the other day?" She lifted an eyebrow, and Theo shook his head.
"Haven't heard from him. Hm," he replied.
"Well, he was, but he came back to Paris before I left, and he made me go shopping with him. Again. Merlin, that is an experience. One I'm not sure if I recommend or not," she told Pansy with a grin.
