"Ah," Natalie said softly. Losing her own father had been a difficult thing for her, and the tone of Kay's voice told her that it was a particularly painful memory, so she didn't dwell on it.
Natalie smiled brightly. "Oh yes, it was very exciting. But I had Madelyn, one of my best friends from Hogwarts, there to help and guide me," she admitted. "She was a Muggleborn, and we both got a couple jobs to pay for the tiny flat we'd managed to get."
It had been a very exciting time for her. She'd been essentially written off from her mother, had a limited supply of funds that had been her inheritance from her father, and the drive to explore and fit in to the muggle world.
Natalie smiled reassuringly at Kay. She was sure that Brian would behave himself and at least try to be friendly with her lover. But that wasn't the only worry she had. She wanted Kay to like Brian, too. She would be crushed if the woman she loved and her best friend of over a decade didn't get along.
