"I haven't been there much in the last few years. Hardly at all, really, since Dad died." It still hurt to say, after all this time. He had been the only man they'd ever trusted in their life, truly trusted. His loss had helped to birth Kay from nebulous to real personality.
"I imagine it was," he said. "Actually, I probably can't imagine... the transition must have been very," frightening, "exciting." But Natalie had likely had a guide of some sort to help her out.
Kay could see how much Natalie cared for Brian by the way she talked about him. There was a pang in his heart, but everyone deserved a good friend of many years.
"Good to know," he murmured, filing the information away. Gods, he hoped he passed muster with this friend of hers. Friends could make or break a relationship, and deep down he still didn't feel like he deserved Natalie.
