Kay took a deep breath, trying to get control. There was the deep pressure in his head of Kit struggling upwards, this time to protect him, the whispers only he could hear of her voice, but he shook his head, denying it, denying her. Kit would mean well, but for all she liked Natalie more than a little, she would be harsh and he couldn't bear it right now.
"You have... every right," Kay admitted, squeezing her hands tightly. "Every right." But he couldn't. Couldn't, couldn't, it might mean the secret, the secret couldn't be reveals. She mustn't see how broken they were. Mustn't.
"I just... I can't." Tears trembled in Kay's eyes for a moment before he breathed in deeply again.
He slid closer, apology abject in the way he held himself. "Don't hate me," he whispered, so low it might not even be heard.
