Thomas held Amy closer still. He could tell how much she was worrying about this, how much it hurt her that he was so conflicted. He hated hurting her, but he knew that it simply wasn't possible for him to throw away years of one behavior to embrace something so foreign and taboo to him.
His finger tucked under her chin, bringing her face up so that he could brush his lips lightly against hers. "I love you so much, Amy. No matter what happens I want you to know that I will always be yours. No one could ever take your place in my heart."
His thumb stroked gently across her cheek. "Don't worry so much. I'm not making any promises, except that I will always love you. I'm just saying that I need some time to think this all through." He kissed her forehead, his eyes shut tight. "I don't know if I can do this, but I know that for you, I can consider trying."
It was the best that he could give her right now. He just hoped it would be enough.
