Summary: Ginny breaks up with Harry.
The truth of the matter was that despite the fact that Ginny knew what she wanted and wasn't afraid to do what she had to do, she'd been anxious about it for the mere fact that it would probably hurt Harry. She loved Harry, she had for a very long time, she had just come to realize that it wasn't a romantic kind of love. She'd wanted it to be - how amazing would it be to be the girlfriend and even possibly future wife of the Boy-Who-Lived, the Chosen One, the young man who had defeated Voldemort and saved their world?
That wasn't worth sacrificing her desires, though. Being with Harry would mean settling for someone who had shown that he wasn't particularly interested in a physical relationship with her, and that was just something she couldn't live with. She did try to convince herself, however, that this had nothing to do with Blaise. It wasn't hard to do, because she was confident that even if Blaise hadn't intruded on her quiet unused classroom last Sunday and proceeded to seduce her, she still would have been just as restless in her relationship with Harry.
And then there she was, meeting up with Harry with the intention of breaking up with him, trying desperately not to think about tomorrow, about what she wanted to happen with Blaise. That was not what needed to be on her mind just then.
He'd looked so excited to see her, to spend time with her, which did make her feel just the tiniest bit guilty, but she pushed past it. Not wanting to drag it out, she'd sat him down and just said it, as if she were ripping off a bandage - a phrase she'd heard Hermione use from time to time. 'Harry, I don't think we should be together anymore. I care for you, but I think we're just looking for different things in a relationship. You'll always be family, and I don't want things to be weird between us, I just think this is for the best.'
Harry had been upset, but not nearly as much as she'd expected. In fact, he'd seemed more disappointed than upset, and he didn't even fight her on it, didn't try to get her to stay with him, which reinforced that this had been for the best.
And so, she returned to the castle, feeling as if a weight had been lifted from her shoulders. Not only was she free from a confusing relationship, but she was also very much looking forward to what tomorrow would bring, and it didn't matter whether she'd won the bet or lost it.
