She shut her eyes tightly, hoping to shut out the images that were playing over and over in her mind. It made her feel weak, helpless, nauseous. So, she held tighter to Nathan, finding strength and comfort in him.
"I know. But, it is. At least partly. I didn't leave like he'd told me to. There were curses flying by that time. I was ducking them, running between them, trying to get to him again, to beg him to Apparate us away.
"I... I saw a curse aimed right for him. I was just a couple feet away by then. I reached out and pushed him out of the path of the curse and watched, helpless as he fell into the path of the Killing Curse."
Her eyes stung, her mouth was parched, and she was shivering—not from cold, but from the memory. It was as though she was losing him all over again. "I was trying to help him and, instead, my actions killed him. It was an accident, a terrible accident, but it was my fault. I should have listened to him. I should have gone to safety."
