Abigail might have only worked part time at the book store but she loved the time she was able to spend there. It wasn't just the new books but the old books. It was the people who came in and perused, sometimes getting lost for hours at a time because of their love of books. Abby enjoyed chatting with customers and had a way with the majority of them, even those who tended to not like small-talk; there was just something about the young woman that drew people out. She had that rare, honest innocence about her that wasn't borne of wilful ignorance nor was it a façade. She remembered the regulars by name. She greeted everyone cheerfully as they came in the door and was always willing to lend a helping hand when needed. There had been a lull in foot traffic and it had allowed Abigail to sneak out her lunch--vegetarian, of course--and munch away while trying to work on some invoices for phone and online orders. The door gave a cheerful jingle from the bells at the handle and Abby's head shot up with a grin already on her face. "Hi! Good afternoon! Please let me know if you need any help," she called out, waving. She at least tried to give people their space. |
