*accepts his award and just stands at the podium for a second, looking at the statuette and hefting the weight of it in his right hand while he adjusts the mic with his left*
*gazes out into the wide sea of faces, suddenly nothing but surprised* Wow. *runs his hand through his hair, wedding ring glinting in the lights* Well. They didn't tell me how big this place was. Wow.
*clears his throat and continues earnestly, as he remembers what's supposed to happen next* First of all, I want to thank Salgant, my manager. I couldn't have done this without his hard work and his know-how. Thank you to Roxy (sorry, Roxy) and to everybody at the label. Thanks to everybody who listened to my album or ever came to hear me play. Thanks to the voters. Thanks to Mom and Dad (wherever you are). Thanks to my right-hand man, my much littler sister, the organizational goddess of the room next door, and the rest of my House for putting up with me. *grins* And for buying the album when I probably could have gotten you guys free copies.
*shades his eyes with his hand briefly, peering into the audience, his voice softening* But mostly I want to thank my husband. Loving you has made me a better musician and a better man. You inspire me and bring me joy and light my way, every day. *blows a kiss into the dark (and though he doesn't know it, it's aimed straight for you)* Thank you for everything you are.
*lifts his award with a little nod and walks offstage to more applause, only to run into Roxy, who apparently bolted back there while he was talking* *sees the expression on her face and stops dead in his tracks* What?
