The War at Hogwarts Harry Potter lay on the ground next to Dumbledore, injured severely. He had been stabbed twice – once on his right arm and once on his left foot. He managed to dodge being hit by the Killing Curse each time it came at him, but there were still several other curses that hit their target. Harry was the only one who heard Dumbledore's wish.
Ron Weasley was about ten feet away from Harry, supporting a weakened Luna Lovegood (who had just been hit by the Cruciatus curse), struggling to find a safe place to hide. Though his left ankle had been sprained, he still managed to hobble about. His eyes welled with tears. Mere minutes before, he had watched in horror as his father dueled Bellatrix Lestrange. Fred Weasley tried to step in and help, but Bellatrix killed him before Fred had even aimed his wand. Enraged, Arthur stepped up his efforts, but Bellatrix emerged the victor. Ginny had been watching, too, and was in such shock that she didn't even notice when Fenrir Greyback sneaked up behind her and dragged her off.
Hermione Granger dashed toward Harry as the spell took place. She had seen him collapse a few minutes before and fought her way through the crowd to help him. Out of the trio, she suffered the least physically. The hardest part of the war for her was witnessing Lavender Brown's murder at the hands of Millicent Bulstrode. Millicent then turned on Hermione. The girls fought for a few minutes. Hermione, armed with the sword of Gryffindor, gained the upper hand. She tried to reason with Millicent, but this only provoked the other girl. The fight ended when Millicent accidentally ran into the sword.
Draco Malfoy and Pansy Parkinson stood fifteen feet away from Harry when Dumbledore died. Neville Longbottom lay out on the ground beneath them, moaning as his attackers used various spells to curse him. Both Slytherins were laughing as he squirmed in pain. Draco and Pansy were among the group of students that formed the "decoy army." They were knocked unconscious during the first leg of the battle, but recovered fairly quickly and joined the real war.
The Patil twins weren't the greatest fighters. Both girls were very squeamish and abhorred violence. Yet they did try. Unfortunately, before too long, they Crabbe, Sr and Goyle, Sr captured them. The two burly Death Eaters dragged the girls to a secluded part of the grounds. Morbidly fascinated by the fact that the Patils were twins, the men gave them a choice. They would only kill one girl and the Patils had to choose which one it would be. They stood there and waited while the girls made their choice. After about a half hour of discussing it, the twins still hadn't reached a decision. Getting impatient, the elder Crabbe and Goyle started talking about just killing both of them. Without really thinking about it, Parvati jumped forward and demanded that they kill her. They did as she said, and after tormenting Padma a bit, went back to the war when called by another Death Eater. Stunned by her sister's death, Padma didn't know what to do with herself. She was last seen wandering aimlessly nearby when Dumbledore made his wish.
Theodore Nott was one of the few Slytherins who did not support Voldemort. While he had never actively spoken out against the Dark Lord, he didn't want Voldemort to succeed, either. When the war started, he chose to fight against the Death Eaters, including his father. He was in the middle of a duel with one of his housemates, Vincent Crabbe, when the spell occurred. Theodore easily had the upper hand in the duel, but that could be partially due to Crabbe's state of mind. Earlier that day, he'd witnessed his best friend, Gregory Goyle, being killed by Hestia Jones.
Hannah Abbott, Susan Bones, and Justin Finch-Fletchley spent most of the day fighting as a team. They stood with their backs to one another, in a triangle formation, so that no one could sneak up on them. This worked for awhile, until Amycus Carrow hit Justin with a long-distance Killing Curse. Hannah froze when she saw her boyfriend die. Susan grabbed her arm and dragged her away, lest they die, as well. The girls were still running when Dumbledore's spell was cast.
