Dick has the natural ability to adapt quickly to new situations, which is one of the qualities that has allowed him to survive the past eight years. He’s very charming and friendly under most circumstances, but he does tend to keep people at a bit of a distance when interacting with them. Foster care in Gotham hasn’t come without a few hard knocks, and while he has the ability to form alliances easily in almost any situation, he has few that can really be called friends.
Dick is naturally empathetic in spite of this however, and usually bonds easily with young children, traumatized individuals, and anyone else who might appear vulnerable or in need of help. He carries a profound sense of responsibility to those around him, and he can sometimes be blinded by excessive idealism. Examples of blatant injustice infuriate him. Having virtually no physical connections to his parents, Dick considers that sense of responsibility his means of honoring their deaths.
Having been let down by virtually every would-be protector he’s ever managed to find, Dick greatly resents attempts from others to help him, and one of his strongest motivations is the desire to prove himself independent. He despises Gotham’s social services, and has on several occasions entertained the notion of running away to roam the streets alone. In the end he’s chosen to stick around however, in the hopes that playing by the rules will one day provide him with a more effective escape. He has vague hopes of college and/or the police academy when he comes of age. He deeply (though mostly secretly) craves familial connections and affection, and is often very envious of those who appear to have loving, supportive families.
RESOURCES
EQUIPMENT (if applicable, any high-tech or unusual gear or bases, labs, etc.)
Dick has very little equipment beyond a few basic lines and grapples. He carries a short wooden staff and wears good shoes when he’s planning on jumping off high ledges. He has one set of medium range binoculars. He’s resourceful and very bright, but there are limits to what a teenage boy working minimum wage part-time can afford.
ASSOCIATES (if applicable, people willing provide the character significant information or assistance)
Dick has no significant allies at this point in time. He’s relatively good at gaining the trust of lowlifes on the street however, which is the only reason he’s had some limited success thus far in his crime-fighting career.
