January 24, 1997 | Dean turns 18. Dean is arrested for reckless driving and drag racing. Spends next two months grounded, no car, not even for school purposes. Once again, spare time is spent at the garage and fulfilling community service. |
March 3, 1997 | Dean's parents force him to make plans for after high school. They give him two choices, college or the marine corps. Dean chooses college and applies at the University of Kansas, so he doesn't actually have to go too far. |

Summer 1998 | Sam is 15, Dean feels it's time to spend a proper summer with his baby brother. They do nothing but get into trouble. All summer. he teaches him to drink, John and Mary ground them both. This summer Dean also meets Desiree Petersen. She's a waitress in a diner, and an art major at the University. She has blue eyes and black hair, and wears a lot of eyeliner. |
September 1998 | Dean starts second year of college, with a new major in communications. He is still seeing Desiree. Sam starts sophomore year of high school. |
January 24, 1999 | Dean turns 20, begins his countdown to 21. He starts teaching Sam to drive. He changes major to accounting then that Same week to "Management and leadership." |
May 2, 1999 | Sam turns 16, takes drivers test in Dean's car. He passes with flying colors. He comes home to find a newly restored and painted (blue) Malibu parked outside the house waiting for him. |
June 1999 | Desiree and Dean celebrate their one year anniversary, she asks him to move into her apartment. He panics, the relationship doesn't go much further. |
July 1999 | Sam and Dean spend the rest of the summer, camping, partying, picking up girls, and having lots of fun. Sam tells Dean he's looking at going to college in California. |
August 1999 | Sam gets a speeding ticket, grounded for two weeks, his wages at the garage are garnished by John until the ticket is paid off. Dean is a bit smug and glad to know the rules apply to Sam too. |

December 31 1999-January 2, 2000 | Dean and Sam are still vaguely unsure of what occurred during these three days. They woke up in tuxedos in the backseat of the Impala in a stranger's garage in Denver, Colorado. Needless to say they hauled ass home, where they were both, once again, grounded for life. |
January 24, 2000 | Dean's long awaited 21st birthday. He spends the night in the hospital having an emergency appendectomy. He is un-amused. |
January 31, 2000 | 76 chicken wings, and about a million pints of beer later, Dean is back in the hospital. he wasn't quite well enough to celebrate, but did it anyway. He meets Lindsey Goldstein, a nurse on his floor. She's a few years older than him, at 26, but when he is discharged and asks her for a date, she says yes. |

June 12, 2000 | Sam's girlfriend breaks up with him, breaking his heart, before she leaves for college. Dean is sympathetic and takes Sam to their family's cabin for a week to drink, fish and forget about evil chicks. |
September 2000 | Sam starts his senior year while Dean starts his last year of college. Dean still lives at home, but works at the garage, and continues to do decently in school. |

March 2001 | Sam gets accepted at Stanford, Princeton, and Brown. He decides on Stanford, as it was his first choice, and they offered him a great scholarship. |

May 29, 2001 | Dean receives his Bachelor's Degree from the University of Kansas. He has no idea what his plan is after college, and contemplates just staying in school until he figures it out. Now that he's out of school, Lindsey suggests they get a place together. He promises to think about it. |
June 14, 2001 | Sam graduates from Lawrence High School. Valedictorian. |
August 25, 2001 | The Winchester convoy heads across the country to drop Sam off in Palo Alto for school. The Parents are in their car, Dean and Sam are in Sam's car. Dean is really bummed that Sam is taking off now that he's "finally almost cool enough to hang out with." During this road trip Sam suggests Dean go on to more schooling, he thinks he'd be a really good teacher, or maybe an architect, or something that keeps him busy all the time. Dean promises to think about that as well. |
August 27, 2001 | Three days into the road trip, the Winchesters have stopped to see the Grand Canyon. Dean and Sam go hiking and camp for a couple of days in the Wilderness while John and Mary get a cabin. Dean and Sam come back congratulating each other on being Masters of the Universe. |
August 31, 2001 | After a couple more days of vacationing in Southern California (Disneyland, Universal Studios, Hollywood, the Beach etc) they finally make it up to Palo Alto and get Sam settled into his dorm. It's a teary goodbye for Mary and even John. Dean isn't so sure about leaving his baby brother with all the freaks out in California. |
September 1, 2001 | John, Mary and Dean head back to Kansas and Mary brings up the subject of taking a semester off before enrolling in some of kind of graduate program. Dean knows that Sam mentioned it to the parents, and he is secretly glad of it. Mary makes it seem like "her idea" and Dean "reluctantly" agrees. |
September 2001 | Dean decides to work at the garage for the semester, and help his Dad out now that John's original partner has decided to retire early. Dean learns all of the things Sam used to do in the office at the garage. |
November 2001 | Sam flies home for Thanksgiving. Dean is still living at home, and his girlfriend Lindsey, got tired of waiting on him and broke up with him. He really enjoys working at the garage, and has a lot of ideas on how to make it better. |
December 2002 | Sam is home for winter break, Dean talks with him about how he wants to run the garage, Sam thinks it's a great idea, and helps show Dean even more of the office procedures. |
January 2002 | Dean pitches the idea to John about being a "general manager" at the garage, and even negotiates a nice salary for himself. Mary is just glad he's found a niche. Dean turns 23. |
February 1, 2002 | Dean finally moves out and gets his own loft apartment in Lawrence. He gets himself a fish (Jack) and a cat (Spike) and a new girlfriend (Emily). Life is good. |
May 2, 2002 | Sam turns 19. |
June 10, 2002 | Sam comes home for the summer, is surprised to see how much Dean has turned "The Family Business" into more than just your neighborhood auto shop. They do custom rebuilds, and restore classics, and they do paint and body work. Dean has hired on three new mechanics, and John is talking about retiring early himself with all the money Dean is bringing in for them. Sam spends most of the summer living at Dean's apartment and makes a casual comment that it seems Emily practically lives there too. She shops, she cleans, she cooks, she has her own key. Dean blows this off as convenience more than anything. |
August 31, 2002 | Sam has to fly back, Dean had really gotten used to him being around and doesn't let on how bummed out he is that his little brother is so far away. |
September 2002 | Sam starts second year of college. |
January 24, 2003 | Dean turns 24. Emily and Dean are still going strong. |
May 2, 2003 | Sam turns 20, meets Jessica Moore at a bar where he's celebrating his birthday with some friends from the debate team. She gives him her number, and he doesn't call. |
May 21, 2003 | Sam runs into Jessica again at the bookstore, and she informs him that when a girl gives out her number she ought to be called. And then informs him that he has to take her out to dinner THAT NIGHT to make up for it. They have their first date, and she informs him that he's obviously totally sprung on her. He's never quite met anyone like her, and he likes it. A lot. |
June, 2003 | Sam and Jessica haven't spent much time apart since their first date, but they both have to head their separate directions during summer, but they agree to keep in touch. Sam's summer is pretty much the Same as it was the previous year, but this time it includes endless phone calls and emails to Jessica. Their entire first three months dating is conducted almost completely by telephone and email, but it gives them plenty of time to learn all they can before seeing each other again in the fall. |
August 2003 | Sam heads back to school, and Jessica. From this point on they are officially "Sam and Jess." |
November 2003 | Sam goes with Jessica for Thanksgiving at her parents' house in Sacramento |
December 2003 | Sam drags Jessica back to Kansas for Thanksgiving, everyone ADORES her. Mary is SURE that Sam's found THE ONE. Though she doesn't say that to anyone but Dean, then she begins to "harass" Dean about when he's going to make it official with Emily. Dean's standard answer, he starts loosening his tie and trying not to sweat too much. |
January 18, 2004 | John Winchester turns 50. Sam and Jessica fly in for the weekend. |
January 24, 2004 | Dean turns 25 and Emily throws him a surprise party. On a whim that night he asks her to marry him. |
February 14, 2004 | Dean and Emily and John and Mary have a nice casual dinner together, Dean has since made the proposal official with a ring and everything. John and Mary are thrilled. |
March, 2004 | Emily wants to start setting dates, and planning the wedding, Dean keeps promising they'll "talk about it later." He wonders how long of an engagement she'll go for. Sam and Jessica move in together |
April 2004 | Emily sadly realizes that Dean is NEVER going to set a date, and that she very well may be engaged for the rest of her life, she discusses this with him, and he agrees with that sentiment. She agrees to give him some time, once he assures her that he does love her, and that hasn't changed. Sam and Jessica visit for spring break. |
May 2, 2004 | Dean flies out to California and surprises Sam for his 21st birthday. Dean does NOT like flying. He won't be doing that again if he can help it. |
June 2004 | Sam doesn't come home for the whole summer, just for four weeks, two with Jessica, and two without. They don't want to lose their apartment by leaving for a few months. |
November 2, 2004 | Mary Winchester turns 50. Sam and Jessica fly in for her party. |

October 1, 2005 | Sam has a very vivid nightmare of Jessica being on the ceiling, bleeding, and then set on fire. Tries to forget it at first, but it becomes a recurring dream. |
October 25, 2005 | Emily leaves Dean, seeing as how he will never marry her. Dean, for the first time, suffers from a broken heart. Calls Sam and tells him he's coming to stay for a bit. Sam is understanding and thrilled that Dean is coming out for a visit, even if it is under crappy circumstances. He hopes that having Dean around might ease the nightmares. |
October 26, 2005 | Dean packs the Impala and decides to drive out to California to congratulate Sam in person, and because he needs to get away for a bit. |
October 28, 2005 | Dean arrives in Palo Alto. |
October 31, 2005 | Halloween, Dean goes to a party with Sam and Jessica and their friends, he doesn't have much fun, but he tries to enjoy himself. Sam announces his plans for Law School the following year. That night, Sam and Dean decide that they need some brother time, and with Jess blessing they take off for a weekend camping trip. Sam just has to be back on Monday in time for his Law School interview. The two have a great weekend, Dean feels rejuvenated and ready to head back to Kansas. |
November 2, 2005 | Dean drops Sam off early in the morning, just a few hours before his interview, he thanks him for the weekend and demands a phone call after the interview. |
November 2, 2005/Sam | Sam has been dropped off, he goes upstairs to his apartment. He lays down to catch a couple hours of sleep before his interview and he sees, just like in his nightmares, Jessica pinned to the ceiling and bleeding before she bursts into flames. |
November 2, 2005/Dean | He begins to head back to the freeway to begin his drive home. He realizes he left his cell phone in Sam's bag and he turns around to get it. As he walks up the stairs to the apartment he hears a commotion and busts in through the door. He saw Jessica on the ceiling, and then the fire and the heat, and he pulled Sam out as quickly as possible. |
November 3, 2005 | John and Mary immediately fly out to California to take care of Sam, who is inconsolable. Dean is trying to forget the image of Jessica on the ceiling, sure that his mind was playing tricks on him. Sam won't talk about what he saw either. |
November 7, 2005 | Jessica's funeral |
November 10, 2005 | John and Mary drive Sam's car back home. Dean takes Sam back with him in the Impala. |
December 24, 2005 | John and Mary's 30th wedding anniversary, they had a two week Alaska Cruise planned that they almost cancelled, Sam insisted that they go. Dean assures them he will look after Sam. |
January, 2006 | Dean starts dragging Sam to work with him, just to get him out of the house, and breathing real air again. Sam has been a wreck, and Dean feels like his little brother is two seconds from snapping and losing it completely. |
