Deep down, Jace knew that he was being absolutely ridiculous. He was a grown man who was on the brink of a temper-tantrum simply because his father, who was also a grown man, had expressed to him the idea that he 'might' ask his girlfriend to be his wife. It wasn't even a certainty - it was just an idea his father had had, that the man still needed to consider before actually acting upon his desire.
So Jace decided to go for a walk to calm himself down a bit, knowing that he just needed some time to digest the information too. That was the adult thing to do, wasn't it? He knew he was overreacting and that even if his father remarried and started a family with Felicia, he, Jace, wasn't going to be shunted to the side. (However, the doubt remained - if only because that had been exactly what had happened to him when his mother remarried and started a family.) It sounded dramatic even to his own ears, though, when he called himself unloveable. "Fuck me, I'm an idiot," he said to himself, as he walked, shaking his head in anger at his own stupidity.
After walking for quite a while, he ended up at the twenty-four hour Starbucks in Times Square. So he went inside and ordered a vanilla bean frappacino, Jace found himself a table in the corner and sat down to drink it. He was alone with his thoughts and his delicious drink, until a shadow fell over the table, and he looked up to see a familiar face. "Well," he said, smiling, "fancy meeting you here."
