Oh, please, I am thrilled you have your mates and your brother. I know you understand my situation with Narcissa given your own with Regulus.
As for me... I have been here six months, and honestly they have been the best six months of my life. A little jarring at moments, but... I have been able to become my own person here. Away from the judgment and rules that so weighed me down back home. I am not expected to be anything here. That freedom is both exhilarating and frightening. Especially after a lifetime of being told how to sit, or smile, and to not be too clever. Because potential suitors will never find you an agreeable match if you think you are more intelligent than they are. Never mind that I was, or that their vale may have increased merely because they had married a Black.
Back there I often felt exactly like my namesake. Bound and chained, ready to be sacrificed to a monster at a moment's notice. Which monster was never particularly of any importance. They were all monsters, every last one of them (save perhaps, Alphard). All because of the capriciousness and vanity of my parents. Of the society we were raised in. Here, I carry the knowledge of the next forty years. A knowledge that is both burdensome, and at the very same time, the key to my happiness.
