Jamie just rolled his eyes but glad the kid was listening - literally now. That was good. "Because I'm not an orphan. I told you, but you might have missed it - I was at school yesterday. I don't know why I'm here now." He didn't like that tone though like the little blonde kid wasn't good enough to have a home because - why, because he was deaf? That was bullshit.
And then he was pushing past Jamie and out of the room, "Wait--" he started, having been unable to check for traps. Instead, there was a dog. Jamie laughed as the kid got knocked to the ground and was apparently being licked to death. Instead of pushing the dog away, he checked for a name tag as a much smaller puppy joined in the fray. "Lucky... and Lady. Looks like they know you." Admittedly, Lady was licking his fingers as well.
There were three cats in the distance too, just watching but not as keen as to embrace their younger food sources yet. Jamie started pushing back the big dog though, "C'mon then, let him breathe! He can't die before he at least tells me a name."
