Will's vibrantly green eyes lost a little of their shadow at the pleasant turn of conversation. The skin around them still looked bruised but its tension had lessened. He appreciated being talked to normally, as if he were any other child in a perfectly safe world. The man at his side towered over him like a sentinel as they left the Institute behind and traveled down an adjacent street. It was companionable.
"Vanilla is good. I like most flavors." His lips pressed together as he pondered. The boy had always been frustratingly indecisive about these things and no one was nearby to give him cues. "Maybe strawberry? Sometimes for my birthday my mom gets some of that and pours chocolate syrup on top. It's amazing." The memory summoned up a genuine smile this time, causing soft dimples to appear in the creases of his cheeks. He looked like a very different person when he truly smiled.
"I've only had green tea anything once, at this Chinese restaurant that was in my town for a little while. They don't even sell green tea in Hawkins. Is the ice cream still sweet?" Will questioned curiously. He felt a little ignorant to have had such limited life experiences. Clearly Azrael was a man of culture. Before coming to Preya Will had only been in a city twice before--- and never further than a few hours from his own bed. What wonders and exotic flavors had the other known?
