Will desperately wanted his mother or Mike in this moment. He would have calmed much quicker had that been the case. As it was he could only cling white-knuckled to the comfort offered by this kind stranger. It was not the same but it worked all the same. By increments his sobs began to come less and less regularly, devolving to intermittent stabs rattling his chest. As Azrael's words penetrated the dizzy roar of emotional aftermath sobs trickled into congested sniffles and wet puffs of breath. After a couple of minutes of silence from Will the boy raised his head with great difficulty and properly looked at his companion for the first time with puffy, glittering green eyes.
"Th... thank you." He said in a hoarse tremulous voice. Though he was not predisposed to trusting there was no denying that this man radiated an aura of gentleness that attracted him like a moth to an outdoor light. Azrael recognizably was the voice that called him from the Upside Down. Inexplicably Will was comforted by the man's presence. There was something light and large about him, as if he cast a silhouette larger than the borders of his visible body.
"You... you did help." Will continued. His small frame was wracked with exhaustion yet still thrumming with nerves. Should the slightest implication of threat appear he could be up and running in seconds. But for now he felt oddly safe boxed in by Azrael's sturdy body. Much like a cat he had always liked small spaces. "I'm Will. You saw? That. I'm not... I'm not crazy." With some effort he swallowed and continued in a voice taut with fear. "Please don't tell anyone. I don't want to see any policemen or doctors. Especially doctors."
