Irene knew that finding Hurley would take more dedication than she could give at the moment so she went for the next best thing. Rapp. He wouldn’t come out of cover, but he did give Irene a location where she could meet him. Things were worse than she’d been led to believe. Stan was hurting people, hurting innocents. She had to stop him, but in order to do that she needed information. She stood on the corner close to the location Rapp had given her. It was stupid to meet exactly where they’d agreed, so she’d stopped a couple of blocks away and waited for Mitch to either come by or contact her. Mitch really didn't want to leave Lydia alone again, but going to Irene and giving her everything she needed to know had to be done. He couldn't let Hurley keep running amuck in Preya because nobody deserved it. After texting Kennedy an address, he left. Always making sure to watch his back and to see if anyone was paying far too close attention to him, he walked. Once he was down the street from the location he had given Kennedy, he texted her again, this time telling her to meet him at the park, which was just another block away from where he had first told her to meet him. Irene checked the new location with the app on her phone that had a map of Ravenmoore then head off in that direction. She ignored anyone and everyone including any looks she got from the people on the street. She knew how to blend better than most people, but she wasn’t in the mood for it right now. Once she got to the park she stopped and looked around for Rapp. Either he was desperate, sloppy or trusted this place, whichever it was Irene spotted him almost right away. His appearance gave her even more information on the status of things. The realization firmed up her expression as she approached him. “You look like I came just in time.” Mitch had arrived a minute after Kennedy arrived. She still looked the same. Then again, why would she look any different? She didn't have to deal with psycho Hurley for the past few weeks. As for himself, yeah, he looked like a mess. He hadn't shaved in over a week and he was tired and it probably showed. Not to mention his shoulder still let him know from time to time that he had been shot and he still wasn't one hundred percent yet. "Should have come sooner," he threw back at her. "Come on," he said as he started to led the way. They weren't staying. If she had been warned about the situation earlier she’d have been here to keep it was getting this bad. Now she was on damage control first, prevention of future incidents second. None of that could happen until she found Hurley. To do that, she needed to pick Rapp’s brain. Irene frowned as she followed Rapp. She was fairly certain Hurley wouldn’t do anything where she could witness it. The safest place for Mitch to be was in her presence. Nevertheless, she didn’t argue. This was his circus. “What exactly do you know so far?” Mitch asked as he kept walking, glancing over at Irene, trying to judge her expresion. But, as usual, she wasn’t the easiest to read. The sooner he knew what she knew the sooner he could fill her in on everything else that Hurley had been putting them through. “Also, you might want to watch you say your phone. Hurley’s been hacking them.” Which was why he had to keep using burner phones. “I know Hurley’s capabilities and methods,” Irene said in open disapproval. She already had a headache. “I have nothing to hide from him. The less this becomes a shadow op the less chance there is that anyone is arrested.” That warning earned Rapp an arch of Irene’s brow. She took in a deep breath then let it out. “Hurley’s off the chain. He’s hunting you and doesn’t care who he mows through to get to you. So far there’s been maybe half a dozen people he’s hurt. It’s my job to neutralize the threat he presents.” How to do that remained to be decided. Mitch had no doubt about that. But she didn't know what the fuck Hurley had been doing since arriving in Preya. He was just trying to clue her in. "Why are you giving me that look? I've done nothing wrong here." Other than try to have a normal life once again. That made Mitch stop walking and practically stand right in front of Kennedy. "He's been off the chain since the moment he arrived here! I tried to end this before it even started. I told him to take me in if it meant leaving people alone. Not once, but two different times. Anything to make him stop. But it just escalated," he told her, obviously sounded a bit frustrated with it all. "Do you know what he did right before you showed up? Hm? He abducted Stiles and Lydia and tortured them while taunting me with pictures and videos of them." “Why?” Irene’s brows came back down. “Because this isn’t the United States and you aren’t CIA here. Neither is Hurley. Protocol dictates that you let the local authorities deal with a crime, not go rogue yourself.” She crossed her arms with that authority air about her. She wasn’t going to say it, but it hung in the air that she felt some of this could have been avoided if the locals had been allowed to get involved. “Yes, Mitch. I know.” Something about her expression softened. It was almost imperceptible unless you knew what to look for. “And I know what these people mean to you.” Especially the girl. “Why do you think I was sent for?” Mitch just shook his head and basically scoffed at what she said. “Yeah, if they were actually capable of handling anything like this.” Which they weren’t. They’ve made that very fucking clear especially after Lydia had been attacked the first time. He didn’t trust them, which was why he had started to really go after Hurley himself. “You know?” he asked. This conversation was just pissing him off. But when she mentioned that she knew what the others meant to him, he was kind of taken aback. “If you know, then you know that I’m not going to sit back and do nothing.” He didn’t care if he was considered just another civilian here. He wasn’t going to sit back and let Hurley get away with everything he had done. “To stop a mad man?” “I didn’t say they would be adequate,” Irene said with a sly smirk touching her lips. “I said let them take the first stab at it. Protocol. When they fail then you can step in with their blessing and gratitude. Think things through instead of reacting, Rapp.” Then she sighed as she nodded. Regardless of her suggestions Rapp was going to do whatever he wanted. It didn’t surprise her since he’d been that way from day one, but this wasn’t her jurisdiction. She couldn’t shield him from consequences. So instead of commenting on that she gave him a hard look. “To stop a mad man.” There might be protocol back at home, but as Irene pointed out this wasn’t home and they were longer seen as CIA. So, why did he have to bother with protocol? And even if they were still following the rules, he never really did. Rapp proved that over and over again. “I have been thinking things through.” It was the only reason why Hurley was still running around. Because he was trying not to go off the rails. One mad man in Preya was enough. Did this place really need two? “So, let’s fucking stop him then. |
