Elliot hadn't been looking forward to this. Ever since he got a call from the head of department, asking him to attend the conference and give a talk on ethical hacking, he had been hiding away in his room or office, catching up on what he had missed out on. Two years worth of material. It was fairly easy. He caught up quickly. The hard part was the public speaking. He hated it. He had enough trouble talking to people one on one ever mind talking to an audience.
With the aid of a laptop and a controller, he was able to pull off a full presentation. He talked about what ethical hacking meant from the perspective of employment and what it means to be an ethical hacker on the outside of official employment. He discussed ethics and morals in relation to cyber security, and what his job meant to him. There were details about current exploits in systems and protocol, the importance of knowing the language when talking to people who work in the computer industry, especially cyber security, and the importance of keeping all systems up to date. He took a few questions at the end. He hadn't left much time for that... A part of him dreaded getting in trouble for it as it picked up his laptop and packed it away. Next, he pulled his black hoodie back on. Next thing, he was heading for the exit.
He just wanted to get out of there. The plain light blue shirt he wore was starting to annoy him. He wanted to pull up his hood and hide there. Panic was starting to set in now that he was done. Before he had been focusing on what colour of clothing people were wearing, or how many of them looked like they were even listening. Body language. Now that he wasn't talking, he could see their faces clearer. He didn't want to focus on them... He had seen that one familiar face in the third row. Mr Robot...
Ignoring him, he walked straight for the exit. He hadn't even noticed Merlin...
