Hello, friend... Friend. I said I would stop calling you that. We're past that now, aren't we? Maybe it's something else. You're the only one I feel I can talk to. You always have been. And so here I am, in a different place, talking to you again. Some things never change...
Even this house. It's not really all that different to my old apartment. I was never particularly good when it came to home decor. I always end up finding myself living in darkness. I don't think I've opened the curtains once since I got here. Maybe I'm hiding from something...
I like to keep things minimal. Most of what I have out on display is computer related. Nothing related to my family, absolutely no friends, no markers of a healthy happy social life. No pictures, no posters. Blank walls, a fish in a bowl on a shelf, a bunch of computer parts, and a wallet full of CD's. That's my world...
Preya... It's a totally different world but a lot of it's the same. And it's not 2015 any more. Things have changed, moved on. Like nothing ever happened. Like someone hit the reset button on the revolution and wiped out every mistake that was made. And technology has improved a lot since 2015. It's the little things. The larger hard drives, the improvements to motherboards and memory capacity. And then there's the upgrades to GNU/Linux Mint. There's been a lot of improvements but there's some things I'll need to change back on my own. Creature comforts, I think that's what some people call them.
Shit... We really are here, aren't we? Even with all of his distractions and the upcoming conference, I'm still sitting here, talking to you, trying to figure all of this out. Preya.... It's now nearing the end of 2017. How? It was 2015 when I packed up my things to move to Ravenmoore. It doesn't make any sense. And then there's people talking about other world. People in online threads talking seriously about about Gods and aliens, people from different time periods, people who can use magic. Is any of this real? If this stuff is real then maybe he...
"None of this is real..."
There he is... Just when I start to question, he's there. Mr Robot. I can see him, standing beside me. He hasn't changed... But he isn't real. He's real to me. He's a part of me, isn't he? Is he real?
"Don't you get it, Elliot?! None of this is real? This place is skewing your perception of reality. You're scared of everything back home, and just like when you were in prison you're shielding yourself away from the world. I won't protect you this time, kid, you're on your own"
He's doing it again, rambling and ranting at me again... What doe she want from me this time?
Elliot stopped and looked up from his chair. Mr Robot had began to pace, back and forward in his room, to and from. He was clearly irritated, nervous.
"You seem more worried than I am..." he said, looking at Mr Robot. "I didn't want to believe it at first, but we're safe here in Preya. There is no Evil Corp, there is no big plan, no Dark Army. None of that ever happened here. We're safe..."
"They're lying to you!" Mr Robot snapped, lunging towards Elliot. "And even if they're not? It won't last. This place will bring you down. No... this is your second chance. If this place really is cut off from our reality, then this place is your second chance to bring everything down. Take down corruption and start again!"
Elliot stared at him. His breathing had quickened, his heart rate increased. He was nervous. Scared of Mr Robot. He knew how unpredictable he could be. "Didn't you learn anything?! We didn't help anyone. We brought the world down and it was only going to get worse!" Elliot snapped back, his voice trembling with regret and fear. "I tried to fix it but you kept getting in the way. People died because of us. Because of the Dark Army! And I won't let something like that happen again. No... Preya is a good place full of good people. I won't let you do anything to ruin their lives, or this place!"
Mr Robot let out a sigh and shook his head at Elliot. "I'll make you understand eventually, kid... You'll see". He turned his head, disappointment ebbing from his image and he walked out the room. He was gone...
