Elena didn’t know what kind of pizza toppings Stiles liked. She didn’t know much about him, actually, aside from that he had good taste in movies. And she’d invited him over to her place? Not really the smartest thing in the world, but Elena didn’t have much to fear. She was the thing that went bump in the night now. She didn’t have to worry. She did order pizza, though. Two different kinds: hawaiian and vegetarian. Hopefully he wouldn’t have any aversion to pineapple on pizza. He could always pick it off, anyway. Then Elena wandered into the living room to put out her dvd collection. She was building quite the variety now; all the movies she had before, and the new ones she picked up when she was out with Deucalion, too. Then the bell rang, so Elena moved to answer the door. Stiles didn’t know Elena all that much, but that was okay! He liked meeting new people and it was something that he had been wanting to do for quite a while. He had finally broken out of his little bubble and he was hanging out with other people now and it felt good. So, he really didn’t mind adding Elena into the list of potential friends. Especially after reading that she had actually watched Star Wars. It didn’t take him long to find Elena’s place. He walked up to her door and rang the bell. While he waited for her to answer the door, he looked around and kind of bounced on the balls of his feet. Elena was quite fast. Sometimes she forgot about the vamp speed and it didn’t occur to her that she’d just been moving super fast until the wind flipped up wisps of her hair. So when she saw those surround her at the door, she waited another three-count before opening it. (She didn’t want to seem super eager, or supernaturally fast.) Elena was a little surprised. “Hi, Stiles?” He was… quite handsome, actually. In a goofy, kid-next-door kind of way. “Your online profile doesn’t do you justice.” Then she stepped aside to let him into her home. “Hey,” he said with a goofy little smile. “Do they ever?” he jokingly asked. “Because yours doesn’t do you any justice either.” Once Elena stepped aside, he walked in. “I hope you like a lot of junk food because I brought a lot of it,” he told her as he pointed to the backpack that he was wearing. He kind of went overboard, but he didn’t think Elena would mind. Plus whatever they did not eat together, it just meant he had junk to take back home and snack on. “Where should I dump all of the goodies?” Well, that was true. They didn’t really. Just one or two pictures didn’t encompass a whole person’s beauty. There were a lot of people she thought who were more beautiful or handsome in person, and didn’t take pictures that displayed it well. She gave a little laugh. “It just so happens I love junk food.” And now she was a vampire she could eat as much as she wanted and not have to worry about calories or anything. “Living room?” She closed the door behind him and motioned to the living room. There was already a six-pack of Coca Cola on the coffee table, and a stack of dvds along with the remotes. “We talked about Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, so I grabbed that… but I grabbed some others, too.” “Well, it’s a good thing I grabbed a lot then.” He made his way into the living room and saw the few things that she already had out on the coffee table. He removed his backpack and set it down before sitting down on the couch. It wasn’t long before the coffee table was covered with all sorts of candy, mini cookies, and popcorn (regular and cheesy). They definitely had enough to get through a bunch of movies. “We can watch the others if we get tired of the turtles.” “That sounds like a plan!” Elena smiled brightly as she moved to the table with him. She picked up the dvd case and turned to the entertainment center to put on the movie. “I didn’t know what you wanted to drink. There’s some other stuff in the fridge.” Elena had stocked the place with wine, beer, liquor, soda, fruit juice, and water from a Brita filter. All alongside the blood bags she kept stored in the fridge. The dvd’s start screen came on and Elena made her way back to the sofa. “Great!” Once he had all the snacks out of his backpack, he set it off to the side and out of hte way so that he or Elena wouldn’t trip on it whenever they had to get up. “Hmm, I might have to raid your fridge.” He got up, went into the kitchen and went straight for the fridge. “Uhh,” he started as he peeked into the fridge. It wasn’t the drinks that caught his attention. It was the blood bags. “Elena, what’s up with this?” he asked as he grabbed one of the blood bags and held it up. Elena was struggling with the dvd player when Stiles mentioned the fridge. It took her two heartbeats too long to realize what he was going to find in there, and then she turned. “No, wait--” But it was too late. Stiles was already in the fridge. He held up a bag and Elena rushed to the kitchen. She put on a burst of vamp speed that she hadn’t meant to, and reached to take the bag from him. “It’s nothing. Just… um… nothing. Not a big deal. Grab a beer, or something, if you want one…” But she was flushed and stuttering. She wasn’t prepared for this conversation. Finding the blood bags was one thing, but Elena’s super speed that was something else! It was actually kind of awesome to see. Or not see? It seemed like she went from point A to point B in a blink of an eye. “Okay, what are you? Definitely not like anything where I’m from.” He didn’t want to assume anything because they had come across far too many creatures back in Beacon Hills and he knew other places could have their own versions of things. So, he just looked at Elena and waited for her to answer him. ...well, Elena had been expecting him to freak out. Go running for the door. She was half expecting she’d have to compel him to forget all about this, and she hated keeping secrets from her friends. But he just asked what she was. And he wasn’t freaking out at all. That caught her completely off guard. “You’re not freaked out? How can you not be running for the door screaming after finding blood in my fridge, and …” She paused. “...are there vampires where you come from?” “No,” he simply said. “Would you like me to freak out?” he jokingly asked. “Nope, no vampires where I’m from. Or as far as I know there are no vampires. But there are werewolves, werecoyotes, kitsune, windigos, kanima, chimeras and lots of other things where I’m from,” he explained to her. “That’s why I’m not freaking out. So, a vampire, huh? I didn’t know vampires drank from blood bags.” “Uh, no, that’s okay.” Elena was relieved. Her shoulders relaxed a bit. He believed her? That was a good thing. And he wasn’t scared? Even better. Unless he was really good at hiding how freaked out he was. But the fact that he knew about werewolves… and all that other stuff… that explained a lot. “...yes, a vampire. And I don’t want to hurt anyone, so I drink from the blood bags.” She put the bag back into the fridge. “Okay, I thought I would offer,” he said, flashing her a quick smile. Of course, Stiles believed her. Why wouldn’t he? He just found blood bags and watched her move in a blink of an eye. She was not human and that was okay. Just as long as she didn’t try to hurt him or anyone else. “Makes sense.” He paused for a moment before he started to think about all of the information about vampires that he knew. “The sun is still out when you opened the door...does the sun not affect you?” He was going to ask her a billion questions. It was in his nature to do so. Hopefully, she didn’t become too annoyed with him. He moved out of the way so that she could put the blood bag back into the fridge. Well, the smile was nice. Elena wasn’t sure what to think of it. He was taking this really well. The fact that there were all sorts of supernatural beings--werewolves included--in the world he’d come from before he ended up in Preya? That was probably the reason he was taking this all so well. She was thankful for it. Another ally. She closed the door to the fridge after the blood bag was safely inside, then realized that Stiles didn’t get that drink he’d come here for. She opened the door once more (silly, since she’d just closed it?) and motioned for him to take whatever he liked. “I have magic that protects me from the sunlight. And… I don’t have to sleep in a coffin,” she smirked softly, tucking her hair behind her ears. “Garlic doesn’t offend me, either.” Stiles had totally forgotten all about the drink that he was after. The blood bag and Elena being a vampire had kind of taken his attention. He honestly hadn’t thought about it again until Elena opened the door. Oh yeah, drink. He reached in and grabbed a sprite from out of the fridge and then closed the door. “Oh yeah? What kind of magic? How does it work?” Yes, he was going to has a billion questions now. There were so many different myths about vampires. He wanted to know which ones were true for her. He was about to ask about the coffin thing and then the garlic thing, but it was like she had read his mind. “Well, there went those two questions! Oh, I know one! Do you turn into a bat?” “I can’t tell you all my secrets,” Elena teased with a laugh. The daylight ring she wore would remain her secret. If it ever went missing? She couldn’t imagine how hard her life would be then. Not that she thought Stiles would ever do such a thing, but there was a part of her which remained a little paranoid. But she kept the grin on her face as she went on to answer his questions. “No, I don’t turn into a bat. And holy items, like crosses and holy water? No effect.” She shook her head. “What other vampire myths are there?” Stiles gave Elena an exaggerated sigh. “I’ll let you keep this one.” He would probably bring it up again or try to figure it out, but for now, he was going to move on. “There went my next question,” he jokingly said, “I was going to ask if I could see if you could do it.” So, she didn’t turn into a bat, she had magic to protect her from sunlight, and holy items did squat to her. “Far too many,” he said as he started to head back to the living room. “Oh, I know one. How does the whole turning thing work? Do you need to be bitten and that’s it? Do you have to drink each other’s blood? Or is there some other way?” This was a conversation that they should have while sitting, not while standing around the fridge in the kitchen. After a brief moment of deliberation, she nodded to him. “Grab your drink,” Elena offered. “This is gonna take a few minutes to explain. We’ll be more comfortable on the sofa.” She turned to lead the way back into the living room. “Sometimes it happens when a person doesn’t want it to. See, our blood has healing properties. So if someone’s in a dire accident or something, if I give them a little of my blood they’ll heal. But if someone dies with vampire blood in their system, then they can turn into a vampire.” She sat down in the living room on the sofa, hoping that didn’t gross him out too much. Stiles sat back down on the couch and then set his soda on the coffee table. He leaned back and turned a little so that he could face Elena. He got comfortable and waited for her to answer his question. “Soooo, there doesn't have to be a big old suck fest to turn somebody. It’s just the blood in someone's system that can turn them if they die. That’s different.” He wasn’t grossed out by any of it. He had seen enough back home that what she was explaining didn’t hit the gross meter at all. “Were you an accidental turn or was it something that you wanted?” Elena motioned to the pizza box, too. He could have some pizza if he wanted. She’d probably have some in a minute herself. Because even though she was a vampire now and didn’t technically have to eat, it made her feel more human to eat and drink like normal. “Yeah, it does involve having vampire blood in one’s system, and dying, but it doesn’t… y’know… involve lots of sucking.” She shrugged. “I… It was an accident.” It was probably obvious by Elena’s tone that she wasn’t particularly happy with that accident. Stiles looked over at the pizza box and yeah, he totally forgot there was pizza there. He’d grab a slice once he was done asking Elena a billion questions. “So, let’s see if I got this right. Let’s say I was hurt, you could give me your blood and I would heal? And, like, if something horrible happened while I have your blood in my system then I could wake up as a vampire?” He had never heard of it happening like that before. It was still kind of interesting to know, though. “Oh, that sucks.” He saw the look that crossed her face and the tone in her voice had changed. “We don’t have to talk about it. We could...get to the junk food eating and movie watching instead?” “Yes.” Elena said, nodding. “That’s exactly it. You’d have to die.” She paused, lifting her feet to fold them underneath herself. “I drowned. I had Damon’s blood in my system, though, so I woke in the morgue.” She leaned back a little and shrugged her shoulders. “Let’s get to the junk food. We can always talk about this more later, but Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles won’t wait.” Stiles was glad that he suggested that they could move on since Elena’s story seemed to downhill the more that got said. That wasn’t the point of this visit. They could swap horror stories of their lives some other time. “Bring on the turtles and junk food!” |
