Elena's full attention was on the kitten. She was vaguely aware that he was coming closer, and then his fingers brushed against her hand. She looked up and into his face for a moment, her heart thundering. Then he pulled back once more.
"I can't blame you." She breathed, then scooped the kitten up into her hands. Kali was so very tiny, Elena was almost afraid she was going to hurt her. Accidentally, of course. But thankfully the kitten seemed content to cuddle close and enjoy the ear scratches.
"I'm looking forward to the tour," Elena added, as they moved up to the house. "This place is... absolutely breath-taking."
