Derek uncapped his bottle, taking a small drink, then another when Cora spoke. She'd been speaking to Peter, and she knew about their dad. Derek couldn't even remember a whole lot about the man, other than he'd never really been around when their Mother was. Which had seemed like something he'd never understood, and still didn't.
"Then don't?" Derek gave a half shrug. That was what he was doing, but internalizing everything wasn't for everyone. Derek knew that much. "Don't speak to him unless you want to? He's been gone a long time. I don't think anyone would expect us to just go running for a big hug."
