It was strange, trying to remember a father who had more often than not been away from his pack. He knew the situations surrounding it, but that had never quite made it easier in the grand scheme of things. Though, there was probably a good portion of things that had been skewed over the years, and moments forgotten due to young age and far worse things taking up space in his head for far too long. "In time. It's all...still strange." It wasn't as if he could avoid anyone forever, but a little bit longer, felt like something he really did want. One person at a time, maybe, and things would work out.
"Oh?" The mention of an elk made Derek smile slightly. There really hadn't been big game of that sort near Beacon Hills, and he certainly hadn't been able to properly hunt with Laura while they had been on the East Coast. It was all a little too close to cities for easy work while he'd been finishing school and she tried to keep up appearances to not draw attention to them. "I appreciate that...but I think I'm going to keep to myself. Next time?" That felt like a safer bet, like things might settle slightly before then, both figuratively and literally.
