The forest itself was so very charming; untouched by the noise and stench of city life, so lush and vibrant that just being in the woods calmed the man immensely. Beyond all that Deucalion found it easier to also avoid being ambushed out here as well. After all the amount of human heart beats were limited in the expanse of the forest. When her voice reached his ears, the Alpha's smile grew slightly at Malia's question, and with a glance up from his book he spoke at last. "I'd know your scent anywhere, my dear. Especially after working with you before. Plus there aren't exactly a lot of were coyotes running about these woods either."
A little tug on the yarn drew his gaze back to Kali, and the old wolf chuckled once more when he spotted the kitten now all tangled up in the bright red yarn. With the faintest of sighs the Alpha set his book down, and after getting to his feet the man slowly strolled over to the snared ball of fur. "Hold still, little one. Need to learn that you can't claw your way out of every situation." Even as he spoke, and gently unwound the yarn from it's hold on the kitten's hing legs, Deuc gazed back at Malia when she raised the question about his residence.
"I've always favored the forests to city life, and it seemed like a perfect place to retire. The cabin is within walking distance to the rails, so I am able to get around with ease. Plus it's remote enough that running and hunting with the rising moon will not be an issue at all." When Kali was freed at last she shakily got back up on her legs, taking a second to regain her balance before pouncing onto Deucalion's outstretch arm. That grin of his grew brighter as the wolf looked on in amusement, watching the tabby claw and climb her way up along his sweater sleeve until she found purchase atop his broad shoulder. "So what brings you out to my literal neck of the woods, Malia?"
