Something about Castiel talking about was just enough weird to pull Dean from the more destructive thoughts of what ifs and he had to stare at him...hard. If this was the angel's idea of an it's okay to be gay talk, it had to be one of the worst scenarios. "Dolphins also rape each other. Don't think they're model animals." Horrible motel late night cable might have some advantages, hour long shows about dolphins weren't part of it but when your brother was in the room you couldn't exactly take advantage of HBO when you couldn't sleep. Whatever, imagining a couple dragonfly dudes going at it mid air wasn't going to help.
Dean could have argued that he actually did agree to it, but he wasn't sure what level classified as a date. Hell, he wasn't even sure when the last time he went on an actual date was. He definitely fell into the category of smile, flirt, bed, and call it a night kind of guy. Even that had become few and far between since...he couldn't even remember when that started happening.
Still, something was up with Castiel. A lifetime of figuring out when someone was lying meant Dean was pretty good at picking up on stuff. Cas was fidgeting, and he couldn't remember if that had been something normal back then or not. Cas had no reason to be like that, Dean was the one going through some kind of gay thing. It wasn't a gay thing. Unless he was actually making an angel of the lord uncomfortable. He couldn't remember ever asking Cas or Chuck about the real verdict on that. Cas had a point. It was only a date if both parties wanted that, right? That made a lot more sense than trying to figure out anything else.
He breathed out, lifting his hands to rub over his face and will away any lingering warmth there before dropping them back to the counter. "Then it's not." Dean was pretty damn sure he wasn't in any kind of position to be dating, dude or chick. He'd conveniently brush off all those horrific invites he'd been giving to a handful around. He breathed out a laugh, feeling stupidly relieved and waving a hand up to his head for emphasis. "I thought I was gonna have to try and get you to mind whammy the dude so he'd forget asking."
