His eyebrow arched the moment he heard the genuine surprise in her tone, and the question of being born a wolf actually had him chuckling again briefly before finally speaking up. "Of course I was born a were wolf. It's not really uncommon to have a pack made up of mostly born wolves, and only a few turned ones." That sort of thing was common knowledge back home, yet after considering it...and the fact that she had been turned only a few years ago, Deucalion supposed it was either possible that her Alpha just didn't tell her much or their worlds really were vastly different. "Quite a few of our kind are born when it comes to the older packs around the world. Most are run by consecutive generations of the Alpha's line. The change itself first took place when puberty set in, and it was were that raised me. Not wolves, or humans, but those like me."
When the waiter returned with her drinks, and a fresh pint of beer for him the old Alpha nodded his thanks but kept his focus fixed to Kitty. Even when the wings were brought out to the table his attention was settled on her as the wolf listened to every word. Again a hint of surprise was evident when she mentioned the Congressional hearing, yet it was something Deucalion just couldn't quite wrap his head around.
"I've been out through Colorado before, and they do have some breath taking forests out there. Even had a decent little glade where the elk liked to drink that I'd stake out for a bit while hunting." After speaking of hunting the wolf reached out to grab a single wing from the plate between them, and after taking a small bite he nodded to her to help herself. "I am a bit surprised that you were summoned before a hearing, after all back home...well being exposed as a were typically meant that hunters would be gunning for you. There'd be no press event. Just silver bullets or crossbow bolts."
