Jessica gave a small nod. His wording seemed serious. When she was ready to hear it? Could it be that bad? "You're...not a bunch of serial killers are you? Cannibals?" She thought about what would be truly awful to come out of Sam's mouth about his father. "Your dad didn't...do anything, did he?"
"Of course, I do." She smiled. "I can fix you up a sampler box, you can tell me what you like the best. I've got a few holiday mixes I've been working on, too." She nodded, smiling some, the little laugh he gave making her feel fond. It probably should have been alarming that even years later, even looking so different, he could still have an effect on her.
"Well, the cookies are always my favorite, but a lot of people go for the cinnamon buns or the danish type ones. With the jelly." She nodded, reaching down when one of the cats wandered over and rubbed against Sam's chair. "This is Binki. She recently lost her first litter...probably too young before she was picked up." She nodded, setting the cat on Sam's lap. "She really enjoys sleeping against people's chest. I think she listens to their heart."
