Who: Roxy & Stiles
When: Sunday afternoon
What: The Rally
Why: Roxy bribed Stiles to keep her company
Where: Centurion Square
Status: Complete
Ratings: O for Oreos (but really G)
The rally was just about to start, a few people making their way to the square, greeting friends as if it were just a casual get together. Roxy observed from a bench, still feeling as if today would go well. It was the first time they had actually organized something so public, something to try and bring awareness to their wants and demands. She hoped that it would work in their favor, although she had a feeling it would just fall on deaf ears. As long as they didn’t actually bring any danger to the society or the barrier, the council felt like they could do whatever they wanted.
Roxy’s eyes landed on a familiar face in the crowd, one that saw her at the same moment and made his way over. She couldn’t help but smile, pulling from a paper bag a bag of Oreo’s...the regular kind.
As Stiles got closer, Roxy reached out and grabbed his wrist, tilting her head as she pretended to take his pulse. “Yup, seems normal to me,” she said with a grin. “No harm, no foul.” She moved over so he could take a seat next to her.
“Thanks for keeping me company,” she said, knowing that he hadn’t had to come to the rally today. She didn’t know too much about him other than he was definitely a citizen who enjoyed his citizenship here. “No other plans today?”
Stiles hadn't planned on going to the rally since he was fine being in Preya, but since he couldn't turn down Roxy and a package of Oreos...here he was. He slowly made his way through the crowd, hoping that everyone stayed as friendly as they were being right now. Because it was going to be hell if everything went south.
It didn't take him long to spot Roxy. A smile spread across his face when he saw what she had indeed got the Oreos. He made his way over and said, "Hey."
That was when she had grabbed his wrist and at first, he gave her an odd look and then he remembered what they had said over the network. "That could change," he joked as he took a seat next to her.
"No problem," he said as he watched the crowd. "Nope," he told her as he turned his head to look at her once again. "This is it. So far. What about you? Are doing anything else today?"
“Nah, I don’t plan to hold our friendship on the line again,” she said with a grin. “Even if I think it’s completely ridiculous how you eat those cookies.” She nodded towards the package of Oreos she had given to him and held her hand out for one. “Isn’t it just too much cookie AND cream together?”
Her eyes went back to scan through the crowd, always on alert, just in case. She didn’t think anything would happen today, but she had also insisted on some friends coming out to keep her company; if something did happen, she would have felt terrible for putting anyone in any sort of danger.
“No, nothing after today,” she said. “Go home and relax, maybe watch some Netflix. I have a few shows to catch up on.” She turned to him and grinned.
“How’re classes going?”
Stiles looked at her with mock shock on his face. "It's not me who eats my Oreos oddly." He pointed at Roxy to indicate that she was the weirdo. "No, it's the perfect combination," he told her as he opened the package and handed Roxy a cookie. After that, he grabbed one for himself.
He followed her gaze. She was looking out towards the crowd. People were still slowly showing up. He wondered how much longer until it started and would they, at some point, need to run for their lives?
"Sounds like an exciting evening." He shrugged at her question. "They're going. High school is high school." It was definitely nothing like how it used to be. He no longer had to focus on surviving. Now he just had to worry about turning in papers on time.
He ate his cookie, watching the people once again. "We should do something a little more fun next time."
Roxy twisted her Oreo apart, deliberately looking at him as she ate the cream from the inside before tossing one half of the cookie in her mouth. “I dunno,” she said, her mouth still full of the biscuit. “This tastes pretty right to me.”
She laughed, remembering back to secondary school and nodded her head. “I suppose it is,” she said. “Nothing too exciting? Going out for any sports or things like that?” She knew his job as the dispatcher must take up most of his free time and then there was homework...still, wasn’t high school the part where you really branched out, got to know you fellow students, and started to decide what it was you wanted to do?
“What grade are you in again?” She caught sight of him stuffing the whole Oreo in his mouth and rolled her eyes. “What is it that you would consider more fun? You don’t think sitting on a bench, people watching is fun?”
Stiles gasped as he saw the way that she ate her Oreo. "That is so, so wrong," he said with a shake of his head. He tried to eat it like that once and he didn't like it. He also did the milk dipping thing and he definitely didn't like that either.
"Um, no. Back home I was on the lacrosse team, but I don't have time for that here." Not when he had a job to go to. If they wanted to just give him money to live on, sure, he'd totally go for the team here, but that's not how it worked out.
He grabbed a few more Oreos out of the package and handed one to Roxy. "Twelfth grade." It was his last year, thank god! "Hmm, let's see ice skating is more fun. Going to the movies is more fun. A theme park would be more fun."
“Or is it so right?” she teased, taking the other cookie he offered.
She nodded her head, remembering that feeling of wanting to get it all done with so she could move on with her life. “What do you think you’ll do after school?” she asked. “Ever thought about going through the academy to work on the streets? We can always use good people to work for the department.” With Stiles not looking for a quick escape from Preya, he would make a good addition to the team; she was finding it hard enough to have doubts about her responsibilities to her job and she knew Stiles would just want to make sure everyone was safe.
“Do we even have a theme park here?” she asked, turning her attention to her friend. The square was filling up, but she figured she’d start her patrol in another half hour or so. “But a movie or ice skating could be fun. I’m rubbish at it so you’d have to help me.”
"Nooo..." He was still shaking his head at her. "Eat it whole. You said that you would." Now that was a very good question. "I really haven't thought about it." He knew that he didn't want to keep the same job. It was just easiest to do while he finished school. After school, though, that was a whole different thing. "The thought crossed my mind." He laughed a little. "I would definitely be following in my dad's footsteps if I went ahead with it." And he would be helping people, which is definitely something that he wanted to do. No, not wanted, needed to do.
"I think there's one." He remembered seeing something about it before. "I just can't remember where it's at." He'll have to look it up later because it was seriously going to bug him until he found out. He ate another Oreo and offered Roxy another. "We have to do ice skating them. I want to see how badly you are at it," he said, flashing her a quick smile.
"When is this protest, rally, whatever this is supposed to start?"
“What? Did I?” Roxy had to think back to their conversation and shook her head. “No, actually the deal was that if you ate one the correct way, my way,” she said, pointing to herself, “then I would try eating one your crazy way!” She grinned, wiggling her cookie at him. “What do ya say?”
Stiles didn’t talk too much about his life before Preya, but not many people did; at least not those that wished to remain here. There was always a reason why and Roxy was never one to push someone to talk about more than they were comfortable with. She would always let them take the lead. “Well, that’s one of the best things about Preya...whatever you would want to do, they give you an opportunity to do it! Besides, you still have time to choose. You could always stay with the department until you figure it out.” Even though she hadn’t spent a lot of time with Stiles professionally, she’d come to enjoy his company and thought he would be a great police officer.
“Well if you find a theme park, let me know. I’m not too keen on rollercoasters though, so that might be better for you to go with a different friend.” Roxy had been able to overcome her fear of heights because of work, but that still didn’t mean she wanted to handle them on her off times. “But ice skating, I can get behind.” She laughed and shook her head. “I’m pretty bad, so you can’t take videos of it! That or I’m going to pull you down with me!”
She glanced down at her watch. “Any time now actually. I don’t even know how it will start up.” Would there be people who gave speeches? Someone to welcome everyone? She glanced around, but didn’t see Matthews. “Do you think you’ll stick around? You don’t have to stay the whole time.”
"Okay fine. I will eat it your way if you eat it my way." He already knew he wasn't going to like it. But if it got Roxy to eat it the right way, he will suffer eating the Oreo in different stages.
Stiles wouldn't have minded talking about things from back home, but he just mostly didn't do that. Especially since most of the things he had gone through dealt with the supernatural and not everyone believed in that. He didn't want the odd look to happen when he started mentioning werewolves. So, he kept most of his life to himself. Not to mention if he didn't talk about home then that meant his mind couldn't go back to the time when he had been possessed by the Nogitsune or the whole Donovan thing. "Yeah, I mean, I don't know how long I can keep doing what I'm doing. I'd rather do something to help. Or feel more helpful." So, he really wouldn't be surprised if he actually followed in his dad's footsteps.
"I will let you know the moment I find out," he told her with a huge smile. They were totally going if Preya did, in fact, have a theme park. "We are going ice skating then. And I'm taking a video."
He just shrugged his shoulders since he really had no idea either. He had never been to anything like this before, so he was just as clueless as Roxy. "I don't know. I might. I mean I did say I would come here to keep you company. I wouldn't be doing my job if I ditched you."
Roxy nodded her head in agreement before stuffing the full cookie in her mouth but she made a face. “It’s too much cookie,” she said, reaching for her water bottle to help down the Oreo. “Yeah, too much cookie. Better to eat a little at a time!” She reached for another one, twisting it open.
She looked at him, surprised at what she heard. “You don’t think you’re helpful as the dispatch? You want me to give you the full ‘without you we wouldn’t be able to run’ speech?” She nudged him and grinned, but knew what he meant. She was sure if she was sitting behind a desk, taking calls, she would want to do something more as well. “Just something to think about, you know? There are plenty of options for something helpful.”
She shook her head. “No video! It’s a big enough deal I’m willing to show you how terrible I am on ice. Maybe I’ll let you take a picture as documentation. But that’s it.”
She stood up, stretching and putting her hands in her back pockets. “I appreciate it. I think it’ll be a rather boring day walking around, but I don’t wanna keep ya from anything. You’ve got to have other plans, yeah?” She looked down at him and grinned. “Wanna go for a walk?”
Stiles laughed at the look on Roxy's face when she ate the whole cookie at once. "It's never enough cookie." At least she did it. Now he had to eat his the way that she ate it. "Blah...not the same," he said once he finished his.
"I mean you could give me that speech. But would you really want to?" Like, yeah, he knew he was helping. It was just that he wasn't helping in a different way. He wanted to actually be out there. He nudged her right back. "Yeah. It is something to think about. You've definitely given me stuff to ponder over." And he really was going to start thinking about it.
He sighed dramatically. "Fine, fine. No video. But the picture, since you're allowing it, will happen." He would take the small offering.
He ate one more cookie before closing the package up. "Yeah," he said as he stood up. "I need to walk off all of the cookies I just ate. After you," he said as he motioned for her to go first and then he started to walk alongside her.
