She wouldn’t deny, the display was impressive. However, it was also reckless with the amount of energy placed into it. Acantha didn’t move to cover her face as the heated air hit them. She simply closed her eyes. After the initial blast she opened them again to look at the dying flames.
Acantha pulled the remaining flames from the sand into her hands. “Magic.” She replied simply. She held the fire in her hands and then let it filter out with a quick puff of simply warm air. “Different from what I’m used to, but your alchemy is just another form of magic.” She leaned all her weight on one leg and crossed her arms.
“Impressive, but reckless. Both of our dwellings are not very far from your blast radius.” She critiqued. It wasn’t so much in a scolding manner as it was more in an equal tone. “I am not naturally adept so I cannot do something as large as that without my force stones.” Acantha admitted. She could go get them easily, but she didn’t feel like getting into a show off contest with Roy. It wasn’t worth the effort. -- She’d call it reckless, but him being the Flame Alchemist, there was no concern where the flames were going. He would snuff out the fire by depriving it of oxygen or fuel before it even got remotely in a dangerous position.
The way she pulled the fire to her, was curious. Just like that, it was gone. “I’m afraid not. It’s all science. You have to understand how oxygen is made up. The bare molecules and makeup.” Roy educated. It was just that simple, if you didn’t know those items, you were unable to do that. “You have to sacrifice something to gain something. So I sacrifice the oxygen in the air and make hydrogen. Hydrogen being incredibly volatile and flammable, just need an ignition source.” He held his gloved hand up. “And a transmutation circle.” He flipped his hand to show the circle.
Some would still call it magic, but it was all science deep down.
“And our houses were perfectly safe. I had the blast contained perfectly.” If he could engulf an alleyway without scorching the buildings, this was a cakewalk. “I am curious what these force stones are, because what you describe is a philosopher stone.” And those are incredibly powerful, and incredibly evil.
Being made from so many souls. -- Acantha gave him a blank face. “Sacrificing? Circles? Philosopher stone? You’re speaking tongues.” She shook her head, “Magic is its own form of science. There’s no sacrificing involved when you have a connection to the world. And you certainly don’t need to wait time drawing circles.” She glanced over to her house and then back to Roy, “Stay here.” Acantha left to walk to her house. If he was going to teach her about his alchemy, than she was going to show him proper magic. She left her boots behind in the sand next to him.
Acantha returned not long after, she jogged over to him, only with a sword strapped to her waist. It looked like it was made of copper. “Let me show you.” She unsheathed the sword, showing the curved blade. She threw it into the sand at her feet and the sand hardened into rock. “This is a force stone.” She pointed to the three stones on her sword. Acantha took out the red one, leaving the yellow green and brown ones inside their slots. Acantha held the stone and it burst into flames. “It is concentrated pure magic. Straight from Innesia’s magic within Dragnock volcano.” She didn’t expect Roy to know her gods or the geography she was familiar with, but she didn’t care at the moment. “If you did your trick holding this you could destroy this half of the beach.” She explained simply.
Acantha extinguished the flames with no motion. They vanished as quickly as they appeared. She placed the red stone back into its slot. She looked up at Roy for his input. She had no idea what he was talking about. She knew it was magic, but what was all the rest?
