Aaron’s head was swimming. His Friday was jammed with this and that with Jan. Between buying a car, getting fitted with a fresh suit for this date, and having lunch with his bff as Jan would call herself… he was exhausted. Weirdest thing, could be in a combat zone and could fight for days without tiring. One day of shopping and he was done for.
So after the day had been finalized and he was back at Oberon, he was just getting endless shit from the man about this. Just as he would. Then it was a waiting game.He had to wait for the time for his date with Acantha, which was literally the worst. With anything and Aaron, when patience was a factor, Aaron had zero. So for the time, Aaron preoccupied his time with field stripping his weapons and performing systematic precise maintenance, and playing with his rabbit friend. And that was an hour gone.
This was going to be a long wait.
But the time came. Aaron got himself ready ahead of the time, and all spiffy. Oberon cat called him in a mocking manner, but Vanguard had other things to worry about. Dressing in the suit that Jan insisted, giving up the battle on the color choice, and arming himself appropriately he was out the door. Giving Oberon the finger appropriately. Getting in the new car, that he was oh so pleased with, he was gone. Preya was warming on him, just because it truly gave him an opportunity to start over, and the general population were happy. The place was still a prison without a doubt, but Aaron was going to take advantage of some of the benefits.
The drive over was quick. Mostly because he wasn’t going slow, but that was neither here nor there. Getting to the address was easy enough, and the engines roar mostly signified his arrival. Taking a deep breath he steeled himself. Prepared himself and he got out of the car. Walking up to the door, Aaron smoothed his suit and rang the doorbell. Again, he was waiting. So much waiting for a man who was inherently impatient.

Acantha had spent most of her day questioning her choices. She wished that her best friend Shay was here to tease her about it, but was also thankful he wasn't. She ended up passing the time by working out and taking a shower. After which she started going through her clothes to pick our a dress.
Acantha wasn't one to usually wear dresses, leading a revolution didn't really allow time for that. But after it she wore them more often, she liked the way they felt and how she looked. Eventually she settled on dress that she liked. She changed out her earrings as well. Then she decided on a small wallet so she could take a knife with her. She ended up on her personal fishing knife, not really needing something big and fancy. Just wanting to be armed in cause something happened.
She lounged in her living room, watching a bird that had landed in her backyard. It pecked at the ground and hopped around while she wonder what had compelled her to say yes. It had to be the “new” feeling of Preya. That or Aaron interested her in someway. He'd been so formal so far and that was about it. Maybe she just needed a change. Or maybe the gods were mad at her and an awkward date was her punishment.
Acantha ran her fingers through her hair when she heard the doorbell. She got up, grabbed her hand bag, and answered the door. She looked back at the man who stood on her step. He was handsome, more so in person, dressed nicely too. He passed and appearance test Acantha didn't even know she had. “Hello. You must be Vanguard.” She greeted formally.
Acantha felt slightly self conscious of her burn, which sat prominent on her face; as well as her other scars both on her face and on her arms. It was a feeling she hadn't felt in a while and it was just as ugly as before. Acantha took a breath and pushed it aside. She was who she was and these scars were a part of her. She stepped on to the step beside him and locked the door. “Shall we?”
--
The door opened, and the woman before him had taken his breath away. In the split second he took her everything in. From the burns to scars, and to the toned tense muscles. Despite being relaxed, she was prepared to throw down at a moments notice and fight to the death. He didn’t see it, but she was armed. That was fine, so was he.
There was an appreciative smile on his lips as his eyes stayed on her. “You must be, Acantha.” Aaron confirmed taking a step back from her so she could exit. “You look absolutely…” Find your words Aaron. You can do it. “Stunning.” Carefully, Aaron shifted his weight from one foot to the other. When she was finished locking up, he politely walked with her to his car and he opened the passenger door for her. Once she was seated and comfortable, he closed the door and stalked around the car to the driver side.
Once he was seated, he sat for a moment, then spoke looking to her. “I’m going to start this with an apology. It’s been some time, since I’ve been on a date of any kind.” Despite being married. Twice. “So If I say something uncouth..” Which he probably will. “Or seem distant. It’s not you. I guarantee it’s not you, but it’s my own fucked up bag of issues.” Aaron offered a smile. “But my hope is we have a fantastic evening tonight.”
With that said, he started the car and was about to put it in gear before holding off looking to her. “Wait. You never really been around cars.” Well his had power, and this brought a smirk to his face. “Well, lets have some fun then.” Aaron shoved the vehicle into gear, and the torque took over as the engine roared to life and the tires spun for a solid moment before they were on their way. Needless to say, they would make it to the restaurant quickly enough.

“Thank you.” She replied with a soft smile to his compliment, “But it is Lady Acantha.” She corrected him. She didn’t care if it sounded rude or pretentious. She’d earned that title and Aaron hadn’t earned the right to say her name without it yet. It was an old habit to correct people, and it had lead to who knows how many fights between her and Divan. The old coot was always so disrespectful to her even after she was crowned like him.
Apart from her correction, she remained polite and slightly reserved. She let Aaron help her into the car. Once he’d shut the door she took a look around the new vehicle. Cars were small on the inside, but she figured a metal tube with wheels would be rather cramped. Then Aaron entered again and she looked him in the eyes once more. She listened to his plea with understanding, “That is fine. I apologize if I do the same. I am in a similar situation as you.” She explained calmly.
When Aaron started the car the noise startled Acantha. It certainly wasn’t the loudest thing she’d heard, but she hadn’t been expecting it. She looked at him with quizzical face as he drove, he did that on purpose. Acantha shook her head and looked out the window. They were nearly flying down the road. She didn’t realize cars would be very fast. She was used to the speed of a horse.

There was a chuckle from Aaron when he was corrected. He truly had that coming, the amount of shit he gave around her title, but one thing about him was… status meant nothing to him ultimately. Especially in a place like this. Though for now, Aaron put aside his ideals and continued about the date.
Now he was very interested in her bag of issues. While driving and sliding through traffic, Vanguard glanced over to his passenger. “Similar situation?” Aaron asked. “My intention isn’t to be impolite, feel free to tell me to stuff it, but it surprises me.” He started while looking to her fully and then back to the road. “I mean, I would suspect that you would be having to fight off all the young men coming to court you.” And here he was able to do it just on a whim. Interesting.
Slowing the car, he pulled into a parking lot of one of the nicer restaurants in the area. When the stopped at the valet stand, Aaron let himself out, while the valet opened the door for his date. Walking around, he offered his arm to escort her to the doors, and ultimately their table. While walking he thought he would start.
“Where I’m from I am a soldier…” There was a pause. “Was a soldier, I’m not sure if I would be considered a soldier since my shift into The Division. My title is Division Agent, so more espionage and black ops.” While waiting for them to check in for their reservation he turned to face her fully. “How does a pirate captain acquire the title ‘Lady’?” Aaron asked politely.</b>
