In the back of Percy's mind something was telling him this wasn't something he might have naturally done back home. At first, he wasn't sure which part in particular. As he nodded his head at Ruby he looked down at the gift he had given her. It might have been prettier if it had some pearls or something on it, at least one in the center, he thought. Then he realized the thing he thought was unnatural, was just sitting and having a conversation with someone with his defenses completely down.
"I mean," he began, searching for the words to explain he had picked it up hoping she'd like it, and knowing most of the other stuff down there was probably way too much for her. Ruby was sort of understated. She might have been the kind of girl most people overlooked, but that sweet and gentle nature was something that Percy had found comforting and even appealing. There had been something inside of him that sometimes told him he needed a a person in his life that was more assertive, quick on their feet, but Krissy had filled that requirement pretty well. "Yeah. You don't have to wear it or anything, I just thought you might like it. Not sure how long it was underwater though."
