"I've put in my share of air time on carpets, and I agree that they should still be allowed with proper precautions, but the Ministry of my day is run by some rather hard-headed individuals. Politics was never my strong suit, so I tend to avoid problems like that by just going with the official rules unless they are too stupid to live with."
Richard sighed. "It is another one of those longish stories having to do with the economics of the modern era, families that don't have house elves but want the conveniences, and my study of wandless wordless magic that led me into looking at the Arithmancy of the simplest, oldest, forms of magic. Household magic is part of that, and learning about it and how it works gave me an interest in learning how to apply that magic to everyday living. Simple elements, strung together in much the same way as I enchant brooms with one long spell, let me automate some fairly complicated effects. Then, too, nothing quite gets the attention of a lady as a gentleman personally preparing a private dinner for just the two of them, no bustling elves or other servants to disturb the mood. I've become quite handy in the kitchen as a result."
"No, young sir." He shook his head and smiled. "I've thrown quite a bit at you for one day. If you'd care to take to the air again, I'd be happy to tag along and observe, maybe offer a few helpful hints if you wish. Or, if you've had enough and wish to digest what you've learned so far, it would not be amiss for you to take your leave and practice on your own at your convenience. You are always free to come and go here on your own schedule."
