"There you have it, young sir." Richard's smile was open and honest when Arcturus returned from his latest bit of practice. "Not what I'd call good yet - I don't doubt you know that for yourself - but a good start. Do you want to practice the three parts of the 'headache' and that panic stop a bit more, or is a break for tea and biscuits in order? I do mean for you to take that Racer with you today so you have something to practice on until your next lesson. Leave that one you enchanted here with me. I'll do a complete study on it when it doesn't interfere with flying time, and give you my critique the next time you are here."
He laughed softly. "I'll give you a copy of the latest printing of Elements of Broom Enchanting from my time for you to read when it is too dark to fly safely. Then after we've done the critique, I'll demonstrate a complete spell wipe as I wrote it down for you, and you can take the broom home again for another go at it. I dare say you'll be downright sick of seeing the thing by the time you're happy with your spellwork, but it is really the only way to properly learn the art. Not by hearing dry lectures in some classroom given by someone who knows the theory but has never put it to the test up in the air."
