"Luna-yah, wake up, baby please..."
She hadn't had a nightmare like this for a while now, the ones where she whined and flailed her arms around as if trying to fend off something that was trying to attack her. It was always worse when the weather was bad. Key didn't understand why. What was the correlation between the weather and the bad dreams? Back on Baekje, whenever the planet's core weakened and the machines pumping life into it slowed for whatever reason, the atmosphere would thin out making the conditions on the planet almost unbearable. It was the price they paid for being outlaws, but he hated having to subject Luna to all that, especially when it tended to trigger some of her worst nightmares.
Key frowned as he watched her, knowing she was fighting off her inner demons as she spoke in some combination of English, Korean and gibberish that didn't even make any sense. No doubt it made sense to her in her dream, but from an outsider's perspective it just sounded rather demonic even. In the past, he would let the dream run its course. He hated watching her struggle so much, but he just wasn't sure what to do. But sometimes, the nightmares got the point where they would make her scream out, and even that wouldn't wake her up. So he came up with ways to try and rustle her out of sleep though usually none of it worked.
"Luna.... baby.... ireona..." He sat down at the edge of her bed with a sigh, reaching out to wipe the sweat off her forehead gently. The worst part about being a parent was having to sit here and watch your child go through the most horrific moments of her life and not being able to help her in any way. She had spoken to him before about her dreams, and they sounded like surrealist paintings coming to life. Things that would scare anyone to death, especially a young girl. In these moments as he sat here and waited for her to come back to him, his mind ran through a plethora of thoughts. How had this even happened? Was it something she had gotten from him that was making her suffer now? A gene passed on that would bring these horrible visions up from her subconscious? Whatever the thoughts were in these moments, they were always of self-guilt.
"Appa no, please.... Appa please I'm scared. APPA!"
"Sh-sh-sh-sh-sh..... Luna.... it's okay, baby. I'm here. You're safe. I promise." He took her hand in his and brought it to his lips to kiss over and over again. She was cold but sweating also, and he noticed belatedly that he was now crying. The fear and frustration of it all was finally too much for him. Normally, he could take on whatever pressure came down on him. No matter the mission through whatever century or galaxy, he was ready for it. Poised and willing to face the challenge head on. But when faced with his sweet, innocent baby girl and these terrible nightmares, he was powerless. "Baby... I'm so sorry," he whispered, sniffling some and trying to brush at his tears with his shoulder. "I'm sorry, baby. Please come back to me... I love you so much."
