While Necrosis may not have seen it this way, Jan was getting excited about their weekend date. Not that it was a real one, but she was always open to the possibility of something more than a hang out between friends. If that’s all it ended up being, that was cool too. But the thought of amusement park during the day, movie marathon at night had Jan making sure she had the right provisions for the two of them. She had gotten every possible kind of snack for their binge-watching and chose the cutest outfit for their trip to Wild World. Definitely Instagramable.
Once his things had been safely stowed away, Jan had just smiled over at him before shrinking down and shooting off like a bullet. He could always go higher than her, but she usually kept pace fairly well. She knew that he had heard cautions about flying over the park, so they landed a block away and walked the remaining distance. Jan took his arm, her hand brushing from his forearm to his upper, giving it a small squeeze.
“I’m so excited! What do you wanna ride first?”
--
Necrosis had shown up in his usual attire. When she took off his wings flared out in response to her suddenly just vanishing. It took him a second to understand realize she’d flown off! He quickly took to the skies after her. When they landed next to the part he was still trying to process what exactly had happened. “Wait you can shrink? What?” He said more like a declaration to the world than a question towards her. “That’s really cool!” He looked down at her with an excited smile.
Part of his mind was nagging at the fact he didn’t have his items, but he had to assure himself they would be safe at her house. When she took his arm he got distracted and looked down at her again. Jan could feel some muscle on his upper arm when she squeezed it. The action was oddly familiar yet strangely foreign to Necrosis. He enjoyed the physical contact nonetheless.
“Rides..? Uh I have no clue… I’ve never been to an amusement park before!” He gave a wide smile as they walked towards the entrance. He wondered what kinds of rides there would be and what a ride would entail. From all the sounds and music that was playing as they approached it seemed like it was a fun place.
--
“Yeah, I didn’t mention that before?” She glanced up at him, trying to remember back to the conversations. It was possible that she had; it came as second nature to her, sometimes it was a minor addition! Especially when you were bonding with someone over flying!
“Well, I’m guessing that you’ll be able to do roller coasters since we fly! We should go on a medium sized one and see how you do!” She glanced at his wings. “I just hope that they’ll be able to accommodate them. But they should!” She brightened up. “I mean, they’re building these things for all sizes now!” Angels may not have been taken into consideration, but given Necrosis’ smaller frame, she thought he’d be fine.
“Then we can get some food if you feel alright after the ride! Oh! And I can win you a teddy bear or something from the carnival games!” She was practically skipping with excitement, wondering why she hadn’t come to Wild World more often.
They paid at the front and walked through the turnstiles. Jan looked at the track close by and pointed at it. “That’s a rollercoaster!” she said, watching as a tram sped by. “What do you think??”
--
Necrosis laughed, “Sounds like a plan!” He squeezed through the turnstiles, keeping his wings pressed against his back so they wouldn’t get caught. He hadn’t thought to figure out a way to hide his wings, not that he’d even do it if he could. His wings were a sign of his pride and also half of his balance.
The angel was amazed by the inside, it was busy and extremely colorful. He looked around at all the people, stands, advertisements, and the rides in the distance. He reached out and took her hand without really thinking as they walked. “Woah… This place is super colorful! They have games too?” He exclaimed excitedly. He was so distracted and excited he didn’t notice the stares he got from some of the children at his wings. They were fluffed up but stayed close to his back.
He looked over at the roller coaster and his eyes sparkled. “That looks amazing! I wanna ride one!” He beamed with excitement. “Let’s ride one!”
--
It seemed that they were both feeding off of each other and Jan felt lighter than air as they practically ran to their first ride together. “Alright, this is like, a medium sized coaster. If you’re alright after this, there’s another one I wanna take you on!” The wait time wasn’t too long and they soon found themselves being strapped in. “Alright, so you can totally be as loud as you want on this,” she said, more alerting him to how she liked to scream than to give permission for loud noises. “If you get scared, you can hold my hand!” She leaned over to look at him and held her hand out for him to take.
As the car stopped before the shoot off, Jan raised their hands up in the air, letting out a wild scream as they shot forward and up their first hill.
--
The straps felt slightly uncomfortable on his wings, but he was adjusting. He looked at the ride operator and then back at Jan as she took his hand. His spine shivered as they ticked towards the hill. The higher they got the more excited he became. When they reached the top he looked around and saw the bigger rollercoasters, he could understand why he shouldn’t fly around the sky here.
Suddenly they dropped forward and his head whipped back to look ahead. He felt Jan lift his hand and start screaming. His adrenaline rushed as he heard the people screaming around him. Necrosis let out an excited yell as they raced down the track. He felt the familiar pull in his gut and his wings shuffled behind him. The wind tossed his hair and ruffled his feathers. He laughed as they headed down a second hill, his heart was racing.
His grip on Jan’s hand tightened with his excitement, but he didn’t hurt her. The look in his eyes was like a true gateway to his soul. He was excited, filled with a rush of adrenaline. Necrosis wanted to go faster, faster and higher. When the coaster rolled back into the station he glanced around, the excitement was still plastered on his face. He wanted to go again. He lived for speed. He looked at Jan with wild messy hair and sparkling blue eyes, “That was amazing!”
--
Jan could only laugh at his reaction to the ride, happy that he had enjoyed it! “Do you wanna go on a bigger one? Or was this the perfect speed for you?” Jan didn’t know of any ride she wouldn’t go on, so it was easy to let Necrosis take the lead on this one. She skipped in front of him to clear the crowd as they filed off the ride and she turned to look for something new for them to do.
“Do you wanna do something like that again? Or there’s a slingshot ride where they literally slingshot you into the sky!” The anticipation itself would be an adrenaline rush!
--
“Bigger! I love going fast! Back home I used to use the momentum and gravity of our islands to go as fast as I could!” Necrosis was practically bouncing as they left the rollercoaster. The islands of his home floated in the sky in loose rings that were bound together by magic. Necrosis would dive under the rocks and use the pull to swing back up on the other side. Truthfully flying that fast was reckless and he’d crash more times than he’d care to admit, but he lived for the thrill of it.
He lead them around to bigger rides until he found the biggest coaster Wild World had. All the while Necrosis never stopped smiling. After they got off of the large coaster, he bounced alongside her down the exit path. “Ok! What do you want to do next?” He asked curiously. He’d been leading them around for a while.
--
Jan had a blast riding the coasters with him, laughing along with him. Their energy seemed to bounce back and forth between them, Jan feeling just a little lightheaded when he asked what they could do next. It was rare for her to find someone that matched her own energy and it had been a pleasant surprise to find that Necrosis could do just that! She felt closer to him as a friend, happy that he could feel comfortable enough to have a good time!
“Food!” She was STARVING! “We should just get one of everything and share!” It was an ambitious task, but she felt up for the challenge, especially after all the rides! She gave his hand a squeeze, not planning to let it go anytime soon.
“C’mon, the food stalls are this way!”
--
“Heh, sure whatever you wanna do!” Necrosis beamed as they headed towards the food stalls. Having one of everything sounded delicious and he wondered what they to eat at an amusement park. He let her lead, finding the little squeeze of his hand cute. On the way there, Necrosis listened to the music that seemed to just come from all over the park.
“Do you like to sing?” He asked suddenly as they entered the food court. He got slightly distracted by the mouth-watering smells, but his curiosity remained. The food court was playing a pop song whose words were hard to hear. “I do.” Necrosis answered his half as he followed Jan, “I used to sing to my siblings all the time. They loved it. Especially Blackout, she’d sing back with me. Though she didn’t know most of the words half the time, it was fun.” He babbled as they stood in line for Chinese food.
--
“I love to!” It didn’t necessarily mean she was good, but she definitely loved to sing. She smiled as he talked about his family, sensing how much he loved and missed them. She hadn’t asked him a lot of questions about them and felt happy that he could tell her about them. He had the first time they had talked.
“How many brothers and sisters do you have?” she asked, her interest piqued. She had a feeling it may have been a touchy subject, but he had seemed to upbeat, so happy with the memory of singing with his sister.
“What songs did you sing together?”
---
“I have eleven siblings! I’m the fourth eldest! I’m also the third oldest son. Judgement, Auroralis, Desolation, me, Apocalypse, Sentire, Ignis, Polaris, Natura, Kin, Aegis, and Blackout!” Necrosis replied happily, he easily named off his family in order of their age. It came so easily to memory, he’d always kept count of his siblings.
“As for songs… We sang all sorts of songs. Sometimes they were made up and sometimes it was rock music from Addeline’s music player.” Necrosis recounted his memories, “Addeline mainly liked rock, but she had a variety of music…” He laughed, “A lot of it was human music! Where I’m from we never really left Caelenta, but human influence still found its way in!” His smile remained painted on his face as he remembered the music player. He wished he brought it with him, but it was too late for that now.
“So what are you getting from this food place?” He asked with curiosity. All the new types of food here in Preya were fascinating.
---
As he listed his family, Jan wondered if some of them represented their names or it was just what they were called. “That’s a lot of siblings! I’m guessing you were a good big brother?” She grinned, nod being able to think of him in any other capacity. There was something in the way he spouted off their names that made Jan feel like he had a special relationship with each one.
“Who’s Addeline then?” She asked, realizing that name hadn’t been mentioned in the list of siblings. “A friend?”
He asked about her food choice at the perfect moment as they were next in line. “I was going to get a big box of chow mein we could share! Maybe some egg rolls and wonton to go with it?” She looked at him, her eyebrows slightly raised in question.
--
“Sure that sounds delicious! I didn’t eat much back home… I don’t have to eat to survive, but it certainly does me good to eat!” Necrosis smiled wide. He hung behind Jan and let her order.
“Yeah Addeline’s a friend of mine! We stayed at her house with her dad Allistair and her best friend Maverick! Heh they had a large house… Especially with all twelve of us! I also stayed with a good family friend Michal too.” Necrosis explained after they got their food. He sat next to her and looked at all the food.
“So what’s what?”
--
Jan had grabbed two pair of chopsticks, wondering if he knew how to use them. As soon as he had asked what was what, she then started to wonder if she would be able to teach him. “This,” she said, opening up the carton to a steaming mound of noodles, “is chow mein.” She opened her set of chopsticks and managed to grab a couple of noodles, slurping them up. “So good!” She handed the container to him and broke his chopsticks apart. “Here, you hold on like a writing utensil...and then you just place the other on top and use your index finger to move it!” She demonstrated a couple of times for him.
“So you all lived together?” she asked, watching as he practiced a bit. “Your family and your friends?” That seemed pretty cool.
--
Necrosis took the chopsticks from her and held them in his hand as she showed. He held them awkwardly and when he tried to move them they fell apart. He frowned and tried it again, “Yeah… When you’re… Uh you’re… ngh.” He mumbled as he tried the chopsticks again. He was having a hard time moving them and it was distracting him. His wings slimmed in his frustration.
He paused and sighed, “Yeah! It was fun, but also necessary. My siblings and I were wanted by the government cause we escaped from their prison basically. So we had to hang low somewhere.” He said as he gathered his calm to try the chopsticks again. He managed to move them and got one noodle halfway out of the container before it fell back in again. “How do you do that… This is impossible!”
--
Jan couldn’t help but laugh at his attempts with the chopsticks and reached out to take them. “Here, like this!” She held one in front of her. “Like you’re holding a pencil or pen...and then you add this guy,” she added the second chopstick and moved her middle finger to show him how to open and close them. “See?” She looked at him, grinning. “It’s easy!”
She handed them back to him to try again. She glanced at him, surprised to hear they were on the run.
“How’d you fall in jail?”
--
Necrosis watched closely before he tried again. This time he managed to successfully obtain a noodle. His wings fluffed up and shuffled with a feeling of victory. “Yes!” He happily chowed down on his noodle and tried again for more.
She asked her next question and he momentarily ignored it. Necrosis’s wings slimmed against his back immediately after she asked in guilt. He got three noodles that time and ate them. He didn’t look at her as his face got sheepish, “I was…. More born into it? That's a question for a different day.” He said with a serious tone. He hated to shut things down, but that question only had a dark answer. A dark answer for a darker day. He changed the subject, “So what’s your favorite kind of food from that stall? Is it Chinese?” He said Chinese in a funny way as he tried to figure out how to pronounce it.
--
Jan opened her mouth to ask, but there was something about his tone that told her to not push it. Instead, she smiled and cheered that he was able to snag a few delicious noodles to chow down on. There would be time enough for them to get to know each other better. You didn’t just give our your deepest, darkest secrets on the first date!
Jan laughed at his question and patted his arm. “Oh Necrosis, you’ll soon find with me, all food is my favorite food! Which is why we have sooo many more stalls to go visit!” She stood and handed him the take-out box. “What should we grab next? Hot dogs or cotton candy?”
