It didn't take long for Rocket to figure out how to work the GPS function on his phone. He looked at his options and jogged to the nearest train station. It wasn't hard to rig an override for the ticket dispenser with items in his bag, since he had no Preyan currency at the moment, which was another thing that was fairly easily solved by making the machine give him change for the purchase he didn't make.
He was still snickering as he took a seat in the train. It made the people sitting across from him to look at him askance and move to the next car. Rocket self-consciously scowled mockingly at them, but he shrank back into the seat, pouting sullenly. This body wasn't getting him the kind of reactions his original body usually did. It was disconcerting. But it would all be worth it if the Twig was alive and real.
He missed his stop and had to hop on the train going back, grumbling. And, of course, it started raining before he even got there, and it was a real downpour by the time he left the light rail station.
"Aw, dammit!" he muttered darkly as he ran in the direction his device told him to go. He hoped his bag was still water resistant enough that his more delicate gear wouldn't get ruined.
When he burst through the cafe doors, he was soaked to the skin, chest heaving. This bigger body was also a lot heavier and slower than he was used to, even though he could tell at least some of the modifications that made him him had transferred into this form. They were simply built and calibrated for a much lighter body, differently shaped. He'd have to run a full scan when he had somewhere to set up shop.
But he didn't care about any of that just then. He looked haunted as he looked around the cafe, his expression faltering with every face that he looked at that wasn't his Twig. But then he saw a pretty kid in a booth near the back staring at him. Or at least in the general direction of the door, like he was waiting for someone.
Rocket started chuckling and giggling like a crazy person even as his eyes clouded with tears. "Twig?" he asked in a scratchy, uncertain voice.
