"You're probably right," she agreed, with a slight nod. The different times thing was nearly as bad as the ones she'd been through in the past - the ones she often tried to forget.
As his eyes changed, Su's own became concerned, softening. She listened quietly to what he said, then leaned across to lightly touch his hand. Her own sorrow showed in her eyes as she replied.
"I'm sorry, Richard, truly. I know all too well what that kind of loss feels like, though I don't want to dampen the mood by elaborating right now. Suffice it to say, I'm sorry to remind you of it." After squeezing his hand, Susan sat back again, opting to change the subject to something less painful for both of them.
"You're very well traveled, aren't you? Can you tell me about some of the places you've visited?"
