"I think that is the beginning of a lovely friendship," she said with a smile. "Cooking is a luxury that hasn't been one I could indulge in very often back in London, but I'm glad to be able to do so here. I dare say my skills have been improving."
At his words, she signaled the server and placed the order for both of them, along with a glass of wine for herself, leaving Richard's drink up to him, of course. Once they were alone again, Susan continued the conversation.
"Indeed. It's...an unusual situation, actually." Susan hesitated, then went on. "He's from several years behind me. Typically, he's nearly two years older than me, but at the moment he's 16." And he'd died a year ago, she added inwardly, but then shook her head and smiled at him. "Thank you for the offer, I'm sure he'd enjoy that. Do you have any other siblings, or is it just the three of you? I had - have - another brother and a sister, myself."
