James kissed his wife one last time before he pulled back. The sound of Sirius arriving, and swearing when he knocked on the whole door with his whole body, was hard to miss. Even harder was not laughing out loud when that was what he wanted to do. And James wanted to do nothing but laugh at this point given how stupidly perfect everything had seemingly been.
Under normal circumstances back home, this would have been where the other shoe would have dropped. The bad thing would have happened. But the bad thing had all ready happened, and with the exception of Remus... the five of them were new to Preya. James himself had seen Sirius disappear and return as he had done with Lily and Harry. Even James himself was highly aware that he was a different version of himself than he had been prior to going into the woods. That level of self awareness had strictly come as a result of being in Preya.
Going home had only solidified that feeling. The flat he shared with Remus had been Sirius' the first time he had been in Preya. Somehow he and Remus wound up with it, even though James couldn't have remembered a why or how to save his life. As a result, something about the place just seemed wrong.
"Honey, you're home," James said enthusiastically when he opened the door to greet one of his best friends. He threw his arms wide open, not having noted the things that Sirius was carrying at first. "I missed you all day while you were out."
