"You're doing great, sweetie!"
There he was, over at the edge of the rink being the epitome of your overexcited, dorky dad. They weren't there for anything special, just for Kaede to practice, but he was trying to be supportive! On the side of being extra considering how he tried to make up for all the time he missed with her. Now that he could use his time to dedicate fully to fathering, he wanted to make every second count. Kaede wasn't too happy with him when he decided they were coming here, but going after Bunny made for decent persuasion. She thought her old dad was cool, sure, but he still didn't hold anything to Bunny. Never mind that his precious daughter had a major crush on his partner. They weren't going to talk about that.
Enjoying her being young? That he could do. She was already way more grown up than he even realized, but he was trying. They were getting there. It was just hard for him to accept that she wasn't a little girl anymore. She was starting to like things besides teddy bears and spending time with her dad. She liked boys and suddenly thought she knew everything. He really needed Tomoe's strength for this because he had no idea what he was doing.
He was no coach when it came to ice skating, but she looked beautiful to him. After one of her jumps, she came over to him looking frustrated, reaching out for her water bottle with her cheeks all puffed up. "I'm never gonna get it right." Aww... she was too much like him sometimes. Confidence was all she needed! That made all the difference in everything.
"Don't say that, Kaede. You're a Kaburagi! We never give up, do we? I've seen you do some amazing things. You can do this too." Complete with dorky thumbs up at the end of a surprisingly decent pep talk. He didn't mess all of them up. But it did the trick because she set off back on the ice after giving him a small smile. That was a win in the book to him.
