Rose blinked at him, a bit stunned by his sudden verbal outburst. There was a lot to break down, and she didn't really know where to start. Still, she figured he would be more comfortable if she weren't looming over him so she settled down on the grass nearby. Not too close in case he felt crowded, but within arm's reach.
She let her gaze be drawn to the puppies climbing over each other in a pile, though she sneaked occasional peeks at Castiel. She kept her voice soft and gentle to put him at ease. If she thought about it, she'd have realized that it was the same tone that she used with the animals.
She laughed, struck by the irony of the situation. "Things like that've never stopped me." Serial trespassing, accidental and deliberate, had been the name of her game for a while, but not now, not in Preya. Here she was a law-abiding citizen with a normal job and her feet firmly planted on the ground. If it wasn't what she had wanted out of life, it was what she'd needed.
The blonde let her eyes drift back to him so he could see her sincerity. "But really, it's fine. Everyone seems to be getting along well, and having another person to entertain these little guys-" She ran a hand along the spine of one of the dogs. "-is no bad thing. If it's permission you're looking for, we can just sign you up as a volunteer or something. We're always looking for extra help."
"I'm sorry to hear about the dogs in Perth. That's Australia, right? You've traveled quite a ways away." Further even than that. He sounded American or something like it, if she didn't miss her guess.
