Making choices of his own was still a novel experience, so Castiel was inordinately pleased with his choice of costume. While Dean had tried to talk him into what apparently were meant to represent wings and a halo, he’d been eyeing the cat ear headband and tail hanging from the end of an aisle. They were black, and reasonably comfortable, as the costumes at the store went. And he liked cats. He kept playing with the end of his tail, smiling at the soft faux fur. He’d had to leave his coat at home, wearing only some soft black pants and a black longsleeved shirt he’d had to borrow from Dean.
The party was already loud and rowdy around him, but as the clock struck midnight, suddenly it became infinitely more overwhelming. Laughter and chatter turned into confusion and fear, and it wasn’t until he found himself crouched underneath one of the long table that Castiel realized that whatever was happening, it was strong enough that it had affected him as well.
Pointed black ears laid back against his head, and every hair on his tail stood on end as he watched panicked pairs of feet rush past the edge of the tablecloth. There was too much noise! Too many people! He wanted to find Dean, but that would mean having to leave the safe shelter of his table. But Dean was safety too… except… oh no. Dean. Dean could be in trouble too! Cas had only lost sight of him for a few minutes; he’d not expected trouble to break out so quickly. With Dean’s safety in mind, the noise and flurry of movement was not longer relevant. He skirted the edges of the room, heading for the bar where he’d last seen Dean. He had to find him fast, before something terrible happened.
