Selene nodded. "Then you should watch for other attacks where the victim was not killed, or possibly thefts from blood banks. If this crime scene is still sealed, I can pay a visit and see what I might find that human senses cannot."
She shrugged. "This is most likely not the work of a vampire of my line. We do not feed directly from humans; there is a high percentage chance of turning them. As to how long there is a chance of the victims still turning, I cannot say. If it were my line, the answer would be anywhere from a few seconds to a day or so, more likely the first.
"I did not die when I was first turned. It was more like having a bad case of the flu for a while. There was some discomfort as my body was remade, but nothing seriously debilitating, even to a somewhat spoiled ninteen-year-old girl."
She thought for a few seconds. "Where I came from, our researchers developed a form of cloned human blood. We had released the patent for general production of blood for use in saving human lives, and also to provide us with a steady food supply. You might pass a message up to those in charge to import some of that, and make sure any new vampire arrivals are provided with a regular supply under official control."
