"Werewolves?" She made a quick gesture with one hand, as if throwing something small away. "There are a few about. Their scent is distinctive. Here, they seem to conform to acceptable standards of behavior. If that were to change? You are correct. I would be your logical choice to deal with the problem. I know from experience the local authorities are not equipped to deal with such. Or vampires. Although the majority of those would follow my orders simply because I am an Elder, and the First of my line. Werewolves are somewhat anarchistic, vampires prefer a more heirarchal system. One of the many reasons I get along in the Police Department."
Selene shook her head and laughed again. "Unofficial? If my attention to some matter is required, rather than requested, it would suggest there would be something that would allow you to do such requiring. Now... if it were to involve a select unit of the police force... Think of the SWAT team. The officers involved all have the usual duties unless special circumstances require they 'change hats', so to speak. But still operating within the departmental heirarchy. Or, it could be a special unit operating directly under Council direction. It matters little to me. But a hunter/killer team, for that is what the potential problem you suggest may occasionally require... such a group operating without official sanction is just asking to get thrown under the bus with the other creatures of the night.
"That happened once in my lifetime. In over 15 centuries of warfare, we vampires were not able to eradicate the lycans, werewolves, nor they us. Once humans put their minds to hunting us, both species were nearly extinct in less than a decade. I do not fear death, but I do try to not actively court it."
