Before Vax had a chance to respond to Shaun's dismissal of the impact of Vax's arrival, he was stunned into silence and taken aback. Scanlan? Furrowing his brow, he leaned forward a bit as he said: "Scanlan is here?" His expression shifted from a look of calm, though regretful, serenity to one of more shock and surprise. Of course Scalan was here. It would explain a number of things, really. Just as quick as the concerned, and confused, expression etched on his face, was it replaced with amused me coupled with a loud, mirthy laughter.
"That bastard," he said with such a fondness that even he almost was surprised with. "How long has that tiny bit of a man been around?" Not that he was in a rush to see him. It probably would be best to find his bearings before hunting out the man. After all, the way that Preya was portrayed -- it wasn't like there wasn't going to be a chance that they'd find each other eventually. Plus, the little man had wanted to get away. Returning his attention, though, to the conversation he couldn't agree more wih Gilmore's observation of their boring year of uneventfulness.
He shrugged. "I'm not sure what good I am to anyone," he replied. "I'm not as brilliant as you when it comes to business," he grinned, "or with talents useful outside of killing things and..." He smirked. "Well, for houses involving man favors, but a man must draw a line somewhere to maintain at least a modicum of respectability." Vax, after all, had very little in the way of respectability. He took the tea and drank it as is. Sugar and honey were grand, but for now, a little bitterness seemed like a small price to pay for a new life. Though, now, he genuinely did wonder what it was that he had to offer.
